4 Instructor s Profile Mr. TONY DAVIES Senior Associate Consultant with AZTech. MBA FCMA MCMI Tony began his training as an accountant after studying economics at Bath University. Qualified as a chartered management accountant and went on to become a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA). He gained an MBA from University of Wales, Cardiff, with distinction, with a thesis on the TQM Approach to Management Control. Former elected member on the Council and a non-executive director of the Chartered Management Institute, He also sat on their Audit Committee and Membership Committee. Tony s strategic role as a finance director in industry led to an interest and involvement in personal development, team building, education and development of the learning organisation. Tony has held international financial control and finance director roles in a range of both manufacturing and service industries including paper products, automotive components, packaging, television news gathering/syndication, and food products. These comprised companies based in France, the US, Canada and the UK, and include Bowaters, Peugeot, Visnews/BBC (now Reuters Television), Valeo, RHM and Tomkins. Tony s strategic role as a finance director in industry led to an interest and involvement in personal development, team building, education and development of the learning organisation. This provided the platform for the natural move in the late 1990s from industry into higher education and business consultancy/training. Tony s wide industrial and commercial business experience adds a further dimension to his approach to accounting and finance training. He has lectured at a number of universities on accounting and financial management including the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and University of Wales, Lampeter, and is currently a visiting lecturer at the Business School, University of Wales, Bangor. He has delivered seminars in UK and abroad on World Class manufacturing. Tony and has also acted as a consultant and delivered accounting and financial training seminars for companies across a range of industries in UK, Europe and the Middle East. Based on the French automotive company Valeo, Tony s film on World Class performance was released by Einstein Films (formerly the Television Education Network) in Tony has written a number of successful books on accounting and finance, including Business Accounting and Finance, Principles of Accounting and Finance, and Financial Accounting (all published by McGraw-Hill).
