1 Commercial Salons Manager External Vacancy Post Ref: Full Time, 37 hours per week. Permanent. 28,000 per annum. Sunderland College opened a brand new 30m City Campus in September 2016; providing an excellent learning environment with a focus upon technical education. Fabulous industry standard facilities provide a realistic working environment to support the learning experience and prepare for industry. There are five commercial outlets, three of which are located in the Salon Professionals area of the campus; City Salon, City Barbers and City Spa. These outlets operate as successful commercial businesses and are open to the general public as well as providing invaluable industry experience for students to demonstrate their skills. We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Commercial Salons Manager to work within the existing Salon Professionals team. The job will involve working in our City Campus hair, barbering and beauty salons/spa, managing a successful business and providing a high quality service to clients as well as supporting learners to achieve their potential. Successful applicants should be highly-motivated, enthusiastic and proactive with extensive knowledge and demonstrable experience of successfully working within the Hairdressing industry. Additionally, knowledge, experience and expertise in the Beauty Therapy industry would be advantageous. A key focus will be to drive the commercial business forward meeting and exceeding agreed income targets and levels of service. To work as an integral part of the Salon Professionals team. 2. To operationally manage the College s commercial salons and spa facility. 3. To be responsible for promoting and marketing the services offered by the commercial facility to ensure sales targets are met. 4. To work with the team regarding practical competence of students in the commercial salons to support industry standards. 5. To take responsibility for the supervision of students working within the commercial salons/spa as appropriate and as directed by the curriculum leader for Salon Professionals. 6. To ensure compliance with all College policies and procedures. 7. To prepare and provide reports to managers and the College senior management team relating to the performance of the commercial salons. 8. To actively promote excellent client care and high professional standards at all times. 9. To uphold the College s values and contribute to the safeguarding of students. 10. To undertake other such duties commensurate with the grade of the post. MAIN DUTIES: 1.1 To work collaboratively with the team to support the curriculum and students as directed by the Curriculum Leader. 1.2 To attend appropriate team meetings as required.

3 1.3 To undertake appropriate and relevant continuous professional development. 2.1 To ensure the commercial salons operate to industry standards regarding all services offered. 2.2 To lead by example working as a stylist/therapist within the commercial salons as part of the manager role. 2.3 To manage all aspects of the commercial salons in line with the service level agreement to include all service and retail sales, banking and administration arrangements. 2.4 To work collaboratively with receptionist and lecturers to ensure an efficient and effective provision of services; to students and staff of the College and to clients, including the handling of client enquiries and complaints. 2.5 To plan the appointment book to ensure the appropriate allocation of clients to students. 2.6 To maximise utilisation of suppliers to deliver product training on a regular basis. 2.7 To ensure commercial stock is kept to the correct levels to support efficiency. 2.8 To ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced as required within commercial salons/spa. 2.9 To be responsible for effective and timely water testing of the spa pool according to procedure To ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of commercial salons is maintained to a high standard including supervision of students to support this To supervise students in terms of managing the laundry provision for commercial salons. 3.1 To be actively involved in the design of marketing campaigns to best promote the commercial salons offer including production of an annual calendar of events to be shared with the business development team. 3.2 To liaise with the College marketing team in a timely manner to support promotion of the commercial salons. 3.3 To be actively involved in College marketing and open events for clients and prospective students. 3.4 To ensure commercial service and retail sales targets are met on an annual basis. 4.1 To facilitate the learning experience of students based on the awarding organisation requirements. 4.2 To follow industry practice using KPI s (key performance indicators) to support own and student performance relating to service and retail sales. 4.3 To monitor and track student progress towards set targets and issue action plans where applicable. 4.4 To facilitate brief pre-session meetings to set pace, inform of promotional activity and targets, followed with end of day brief meetings to feedback on performance and business objectives. 5.1 To liaise with lecturers regarding individual student development needs. 5.2 To manage and supervise students placed in the commercial salons to gain a valuable and relevant industry experience and develop industry skills. 5.3 To ensure the safety of students within the commercial salons. 6.1 To ensure that all College policies and procedures are adhered to at all times; with a high priority on health & safety. 7.1 To design, draft and implement a local sales and marketing strategy for the year. 7.2 To deliver the commercial salon strategy in order to achieve commercial targets in salon services and retail. 7.3 To monitor and report on the service and retail performance of the commercial salons, providing weekly reports to the Curriculum Leader and all relevant parties. 7.4 To drive consistent standards and profit performance through effective and efficient selection of resources.
