BACKGROUND This course is aimed at individuals that are responsible for implementing or maintaining an environmental management system based on ISO It will provide an overview of the new requirements of ISO 14001:2015 to enable learners to evaluate and implement changes and improve their organisation s environmental management system. This course has been developed in consultation with Martin Baxter, IEMA s Chief Policy Advisor who led the UK delegation to the international working group in the production of ISO 14001: COURSE DURATION 7 Guided Learning Hours/1 Day 4. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? This course will benefit those learners that have experience implementing ISO and will need to manage the transition to the updated standard (e.g. Environmental Managers, Auditors and Consultants). The course is set at the Managerial Level of IEMA s Skills Map. 5. MATERIALS AND CERTIFICATION A full range of training materials are available for this qualification. In order to ensure consistency in the way the course is delivered, all registered centres are required to use the supplied materials that include: Learner manuals Trainer manual PowerPoint course training presentation Electronic Gap Analysis Tool Whilst tailoring of the course is permitted depending on the audience, the core content must all be delivered within the course. This course is an IEMA Certified course and certificates are provided by IEMA to learners who have attended the course. 5 6. ASSESSMENT There is no assessment for this course. 7. TRAINER REQUIREMENTS This course is about understanding the implication for organisations of the changes in ISO 14001:2015 and planning for the transition to the new standard. It is anticipated that learners will be experienced EMS professionals, with responsibility for their organisation s EMS, or otherwise involved in supporting organisations in EMS implementation, maintenance and auditing. Trainers must have the capability and confidence to engage effectively with these professionals, and ensure that they understand the challenges that are facing them. Trainers must be able to ensure that learners also appreciate the potential benefits to their organisations from transitioning to the revised standard, and that they are equipped to communicate these benefits to senior management, to ensure that organisations remain committed to ISO Consequently, IEMA expects trainers to have extensive experience of EMS implementation and maintenance, and also to be able to address strategic environmental issues, the wider principles of sustainability and the integration of environmental management into business processes. Trainers must have a track record of facilitating EMS workshops/courses and sound training experience. In addition to the trainer requirements set out in the policy manual, Guide to becoming an IEMA Training Centre, the specific trainer requirements for delivering this course are: Mandatory: 5 years experience of working with ISO and environmental management systems and a qualification (where a trainer does not have 5 years of experience but can demonstrate substantial proven experience of working with ISO this will be accepted) Attending a half day trainer induction prior to delivery of the course Desirable: Full Membership of IEMA Experience of a wide selection of industry and business sectors 8.
