5 LIFEGUARD/SWIMMING TEACHER FIXED TERM 36 MONTH PART-TIME CONTRACT QUALIFICATIONS 1. CHARACTER: 2. AGE: Candidates shall be of good character. Candidates shall be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receipt of completed application forms for the position occurs. 3. HEALTH: Candidates shall be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. 4. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS ETC.: Candidates must hold:- 1. The Irish Water Safety Pool Lifeguard Award or equivalent 2. Swim Ireland Level 1 And either 2, 3 or 4 3. 6 LIFEGUARD/SWIMMING TEACHER BALLINA SWIMMING POOL FIXED TERM 36 MONTH PART-TIME CONTRACT PARTICULARS OF EMPLOYMENT 1. HOURS OF WORK: As required to carry out the duties of Lifeguard/Swimming Teacher. The hours of work will be arranged to suit the efficient operation of the pool. Hours of work will be advised on week by week basis. 2. WAGE SCALE: The starting pay for new entrants will be at the minimum of the scale and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Outlined below is the salary scale in respect of a 39 hours working week, this will be pro rata for hours less than 39 hours per week. Range: , , , , , , , , , , , , DUTIES The Lifeguard/Pool Attendant shall:- Carry out such duties as may be assigned by the Swimming Pool Manager, Assistant Pool Manager or Officer of the Council from time to time; Carry out teaching duties including lessons; Be required to work weekends and bank holidays; Perform such duties appropriate to your grade as may from time to time be assigned to you in relation to your employment and as may be appropriate to any particular function of any local authority for which the manager is responsible and carry out such instructions as may be given in relation to the performance of duties; Implement all rules and regulations agreed by the Council; Ensure constant surveillance over users of the pool while in the water and that adequate means are available at all times for the rescue and resuscitation of persons who get into difficulties; Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene at the pool and it s facilities;

7 Ensure that all plant and equipment at the pool is working satisfactorily and that any defect is immediately reported to the Assistant Swimming Pool Manager, Swimming Pool Manager or Officer of Mayo County Council; Ensure control and discipline of users of the pool and its facilities and the safety of users. 4. HEALTH: For the purpose of satisfying the requirement as to health, it will be necessary for successful candidates before being appointed, to undergo at their expense a medical examination by a qualified medical practitioner to be nominated by the Local Authority. Defects reported as a result of this examination must be remedied before appointment. On taking up appointment the expense of the medical examination will be refunded to the candidate. 5. RESIDENCE The successful applicant shall reside in the district in which his/her duties are to be performed or within reasonable distance thereof and will be required to carry out his/her duties under the overall direction of the Assistant Swimming Pool Manager, Swimming Pool Manager or Officer of the Council. 6. SHORTLISTING: Candidates may be shortlisted for interview on the basis of information supplied in their application and after successful completion of water safety tests. Where it is considered that it would be reasonable not to admit all candidates to the interview, by reason of the number of applications received and the standard of knowledge, training or experience in general of the candidates or unsuccessful completion of water safety tests, only persons likely to attain at the interview a standard sufficient for selection and recommendation for employment shall be called for interview. NOTES: Applicants are reminded that any attempt by themselves or by any persons acting on their behalf directly or indirectly by means of written communication or otherwise canvass or otherwise influence in the candidate s favour any officer of the County Council or persons nominated by the County Manager to interview or examine applicants, will automatically disqualify the applicant for the position they are seeking.
