The PMI definition of a project is, a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result 1 It s the discipline applied to achieving the goal of a project which is to deliver a specific, well understood, results within a defined scope, budget, and timeframe Project Management Institute, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK guide), page 5. 5 The ideal scenario would be: A business problem / opportunity is identified and analyzed the need for a project is determined Project charter Executive sponsorship High level Scope, budget, and Schedule Identify and assign a Project Manager (only 1 PM) The ideal scenario would be: PM identifies all the project stakeholders and forms a project team Team plans the Project s execution The PM guides the project through the phases while monitoring the project s performance (adherence to Scope, Budget, and Schedule) The project is delivered within the Scope, Budget, and Schedule constraints What Supporting Tools are Available?
