Those of us on the Board of Directors hope that it has been a rewarding and educational year for our members. One of our goals this year has been to continue to find speakers addressing timely and pertinent topics at the monthly PDMs. Many of the topics were directly suggested by members from feedback we received either from surveys or one-on-one conversations. Your feedback has also helped us to become more involved in the local community. During the past few years we have collected food donations, children s books, and school supplies for IPS students. One of our most successful programs was collecting care package items for soldiers in Iraq. Members have also told us that they enjoy having the PDMs at different locations around the city. Once again, NAPM-I received the ISM Affiliate Excellence Award. This program recognizes affiliates for excellence in operations, education and training, recruitment, and promotion of the supply management profession. It is important to the future of NAPM-I that members share their ideas and also express any concerns. This association belongs to its members. Even if you are not able to regularly attend the monthly PDMs or join a committee, there are a number of other opportunities throughout each year for members to participate. For example, if you are interested in seeing what goes on behind the scenes and how decisions relating to our affiliate are made, plan on sitting in on one of the monthly Board of Directors meetings. Also, various seminars are offered each year some with an in-person facilitator and some via satellite featuring facilitators from industries and institutions across the nation. You might also enjoy volunteering to help out with some small task at one of the many events that take place during the year. Director of Communications Matt McKee Communications@napmindianapolis.org Director of Membership Eileen Hunsucker Membership@napmindianapolis.org Office Manager Wendy Bayley napmi@sbcglobal.net In closing, after having served on the Board since 2005, I have decided to take a break and will not be returning to the Board this next year. It has been a great opportunity to participate in the Indy affiliate and most of all I have enjoyed meeting and becoming acquainted with many of our members. Here s hoping that the program year will continue with the success and growth we have seen these past several years. 3 Volume 15, Issue 8 Page 3 ISM Society Update Spread the Word Sharing the Value of Supply Management Spread the Word Supply Management Month Is Here Again As many know, supply management professionals play a vital role in keeping a business, office or even a household running. In order to gain awareness of the field at a national level, each March, ISM celebrates Supply Management Month. This month, on-air credits can be heard on National Public Radio (NPR) during select newscasts and programs. NPR listeners will hear an ISM credit that mentions Institute for Supply Management as the source of the monthly ISM Report On Business. These spots will direct listeners to the ISM Web site. Fortunately, the Web site address is short and easy to remember especially for those NPR listeners who tune in during their drive time. ISM MEMBERSHIP February, ,204 Building a Powerful Profession: One Member at a Time In addition, the ISM Public Relations Team has put together a few suggestions that affiliate members can implement in order to promote this important month for supply management professionals. Utilize the Supply Management Month News Release Template. The Supply Management Month News Release Template will give local media all the information they need to know about Supply Management Month. This release is available on the ISM Web site, by selecting Membership, Affiliate Support, then Public Relations Resources at ISM. Members can now copy and paste the text and fill in the missing information for distribution among local business journals, business reporters, organization newsletters, community-focused newspapers and just about any media outlet that might cover your affiliate's news. And remember, a picture can often add to the interest of the release why not gather up your affiliate for a group photo and send it with the release? Be sure to include the names of those pictured. Hold a food drive or toy drive as part of your month's promotion tell the media about it. Some affiliate members may choose to support a local charity as part of their promotion for Supply Management Month. A modified news release can be used announcing the drive as part of the Supply Management Month festivities. This is a great way to highlight the profession to the local community while helping out a worthy cause. Change your voic greeting. After your standard greeting, why not add the following line: "And as always, have a great Supply Management Month." By implementing a few of these tools, affiliate members can help draw attention to the important field of supply management.
