7 Chartered Geographer Guidance Guidance is provided by the assessment panel for Chartered Geographer to help make sure you have included sufficient information in your application Sufficient professional context Has the case been made for CGeog status? Is there enough evidence of professional influence? Is enough information given? For those without formal geographical training, is there evidence of an appreciation of the scope and significance of a geographical perspective beyond the technical requirements of your work?

9 Professional standards framework A framework of competencies has been developed to help those working towards achieving Chartered Geographer status, looking at the four key areas of work experience most valued by the assessment panel. The competencies provide examples in these areas, which are based around the ability to: Apply geographical skills, knowledge and understanding Innovate Act professionally Communicate and influence

10 Chartered Geographer PSE Clearly describes all relevant geographical experience and knowledge and how you are applying your geographical knowledge, skills and understanding to your work Shows how this constitutes a case for Chartered Geographer Demonstrates that you are advancing geography above and beyond job description and everyday work requirements Shows a commitment to continuing professional development Provides an explicit statement as to why you wish to become a CGeog States how you will use chartership in the future Also: typed, words max, cross-reference other documents

11 CGeog CPD Continuing professional development (CPD) is a career long process by which professionals keep their subject, knowledge, skills and understanding up to date Evidence of a commitment to CPD is needed for all CGeog applications Use the Society's template CPD Record Evidence of a future commitment to CPD is also essential for a successful CGeog application CGeog (GIS/GI) applicants may choose to take part in the AGI CPD Scheme, which produces a certified and formal record of professional development

12 CGEOG CPD Events The Society formally recognises CPD events that are suitable for Chartered Geographers The Society recognises courses through kite marking. The kite mark raises the profile of the CPD activity, highlighting its relevance for Chartered Geographer and other professional accreditations. Whether an activity is suitable for the CGeog kite mark is at the discretion of the Chartered Geographer Final Assessment Committee
