4 MICHAEL W. BENNETT VICE PRESIDENT CIANBRO Michael W. Bennett is the Vice President of The Cianbro Companies where he is enjoying his 22nd year of service of helping to foster leadership as a behavior, not a position. The Cianbro team believes the healthy and safe behaviors they practice at work can influence their loved ones, friends and neighbors. Mike s Safety Tips 1. You have to believe and inspire the team that you can work safe in this industry 2. You have to have an emotional connection with the team. 3. Plan Do Check Act. Empower all to pause or stop work when an unsafe condition and behavior arises. 4. Clearly communicate seek understanding and engage throughout the day so you are able to coach for success 5. Recognize positive behaviors.

5 STEVE SEREDITCH DIRECTOR OF SAFETY ALLAN MYERS Steve Sereditch has been involved with Allan Myers for over 10 years. He leads and energizes the culture of Home Safe Tonight across the company. Steve is responsible for the development and implementation of safety standards, and strives to collectively influence and coach the culture of safety throughout the company. Steve s Safety Tips 1. Make safety personal. Know the people, learn the work & influence the work being put in place by your family. 2. Have fun, be creative, be curious and be an innovative leader step outside the norm. 3. Safety isn t left at the work site or in the job box. We need to connect everyone to it as a necessity they need to survive. 4. Anyone can be an advocate for safety. Step up, use your voice and make a change every minute, every day!

6 JULIO CHICAS AREA MANAGER TRAYLOR Julio has nearly 20 years of experience working on major heavy civil construction projects throughout the nation. During his many years in the field managing large crews performing complex, potentially dangerous work, often in or over water, he developed a safety-first approach that resulted in a wide range of safe and successful projects. Julio s Safety Tips 1. Systematically empowering your crews to make safe choices every day will lead to a successful culture. 2. Safety is a mindset and it begins with you. 3. Safety and productivity are one in the same; don t let one be the excuse to neglect the other. 4. If you don t correct the little things, then don t be surprised when something big happens. 5. Safety is not just about you, it is about the people that you go home to every day.

7 SCOTT IZON DIRECTOR OF US HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT PCL CONSTRUCTION INC. Scott brings more than 30-years of construction safety expertise to PCL. For the last 12-years, he has shared his extensive knowledge about what it takes to positively impact and influence safe behaviors on PCL jobsites. He is responsible for the development and implementation of PCL s US safety standards and for fostering a strong safety culture. Scott s Safety Tips 1. Do not rule safety by fear, it will only mask the issues. 2. Get to know your coworkers and make safety personal. People respond to positive relationships. 3. Carefully plan your work and identify hazards, even if you are called to do a task at the last minute. 4. Be open and honest and don t be afraid of having difficult conversations. Being respected will have more impact than being liked. 5. If you see something that doesn t look right, say something. You might be the difference of someone going home safely at the end of the day.

8 BOBBY GREER CORPORATE HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT DIRECTOR SUPERIOR CONSTRUCTION Bobby has worked in the Construction Safety industry for over 20 years. As the Corporate Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Director, Bobby oversees all HSE functions across all divisions of Superior Construction. These functions include development and implementation of the Corporate HSE Program as well as providing mentorship to the next generation of safety professionals. Bobby s Safety Tips 1. Safety is more than a right, it is a responsibility of each of our employees. 2. Building relationships at every level of the organization helps foster our safety culture. 3. Boosting an on-the-ground approach is essential for continued safety improvement. 4. Planning our work not only daily, but for each task, is instrumental in performing work safely. 5. Creating positive recognition goes a long way.

9 HANK DUTTON SENIOR SPECIALIST OF RISK CONTROL TRAVELERS Hank Dutton, Senior Specialist at Travelers, is a NCCCO certified lift director for over 20 years. He has worked with a diverse group of contractors, covering most types of construction. Dutton's deep experience allows him to regularly assist clients with questions relating to cranes and rigging. Hank s Safety Tips 1. Safe crane operations involve more than just a certified operator. 2. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Make sure everyone is properly trained for the task at hand. 3. Fail to plan. Plan to Fail. Ensure your lifts are properly planned. 4. If the ground can t hold up the crane, the crane can t hold up the load. 5. Power lines and cranes don t mix. Look up and live.

10 CLAY WEST EH&S DIRECTOR BMWC Clay brings a multitude of experience in safety administration and enforcement to the industry in his role at BMWC. He shares his passion for safety, and engages with staff across the company with a focus and commitment to monitoring, educating, and constantly improving on the culture of safety. Clay s Safety Tips 1. Planning is a key factor to safety success. This encompasses a high-level project safety planning prior to the work. 2. Safety is a mindset that is always working. It cannot be something that is turned on and shut off at quitting time. 3. Managers have to know that the craftspeople depend on their support and leadership. Managers have to actively participate in task planning. 4. Employees have to recognize and react to change. 5. No task is so important that it cannot be performed in a safe manner.

11 MIKE CHAPMAN VICE PRESIDENT ELDECO Mike serves as Vice President of Eldeco s Greenville office. Mike takes pride in building strong teams with our company-wide approach to the safety and well-being of every employee on and off the job. Mike has served as a Carolinas Electical Contractors Association Board Member as well as the ABC Carolinas Government Affairs Chair. Mike s Safety Tips 1. All people matter and their safety is paramount! 2. Walk the walk and talk the talk from apprentice to CEO. 3. We care for all aspects of business, including Safety, Quality and Productivity.
