1 CENTENNIAL WATER & SANITATION DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Lines Maintenance System Grade: Mechanic I, II, III, & IV Department: Location: Field Dept Office Section: Lines Maintenance Status: Non-exempt Rev. Date: 3/19/18 GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks which result in the efficient and effective operation and maintenance of pipelines and equipment used in the collection, distribution, storage, and processing of water and wastewater. Responds to emergency call-outs. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Lead Lines System Mechanic. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Exercises supervision over Utility Workers, outside service contractors, and temporary staff as assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on the District s water distribution and wastewater collection equipment and facilities. 2. Uses video inspection and jetting equipment to clean and maintain the collection system. 3. Performs utility locates of the District s water and wastewater facilities. 4. Conducts manhole inspections. 5. Performs valve inspection and exercising (closing and reopening of valves) and repair/replacement as needed. 6. Performs fire hydrant inspections, maintenance, and repairs. 7. Repairs and replaces broken pipes, valves, hydrants, PRVs, curb stops, and other system appurtenances that may require working in a ditch, mud, and confined spaces. Ability to perform minor and major repairs to the collection and distribution system under emergency conditions (i.e. sewer backups, water main breaks, water service leaks, etc.) 8. Enters and exits confined spaces such as underground vaults and manholes. 9. Provides records, purchasing, disposal, care and maintenance of fleet and equipment. 10. Provides water quality monitoring and reporting of system as required. 11. Loads, unloads, and transports equipment and personnel in District vehicles to a variety of work sites.

2 Page 2 of Uses power equipment and tools to perform maintenance on the collection and distribution system and facilities. 13. Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures. 14. Coordinates activities with other divisions and sections to avoid interruption of service. 15. Routinely interacts with the public and Centennial customers to resolve customer concerns. 16. Provides other Operations staff and management detailed updates on the status of customer service calls through the use of s and text messages. 17. Maintains written activity reports, inspection reports, and other records on a daily basis. 18. Responds to emergency call-outs. 19. Provides support for a variety of special projects by assisting with planning, site preparation, on-site staffing, clean-up, and evaluation. 20. Assist other sections as needed to complete the goals of the organization. 21. Performs other duties as assigned. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver s License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record. Availability to work non-scheduled hours when necessary Must be able to respond to the District Facilities within 40 minutes while on-call. May be required to obtain a CDL License Must be knowledgeable or willing to train for Microsoft Word and Excel Must have State Certifications as noted in Job Levels. Ability to perform basic water mathematical calculations accurately. JOB LEVELS FOR C&D SYSTEM MECHANIC: Collection & Distribution System Mechanic Apprentice No experience in collection and distribution maintenance. Required to pass the Colorado Class 1 Distribution or Colorado Class 1 Collection or Class D Water Treatment certifications exam within 1 year of hire. Collection & Distribution System Mechanic I One-month experience in collection and distribution maintenance. Required to have the Colorado Class 1 Distribution and Colorado Class 1 Collection Collection & Distribution System Mechanic II

3 Page 3 of 5 Two years experience in collection and distribution maintenance. Required to have the Colorado Class 2 Distribution and Colorado Class 2 Collection Collection & Distribution System Mechanic III Three years experience in collection and distribution maintenance. Required to have the Colorado Class 3 Distribution and Colorado Class 3 Collection Collection & Distribution System Mechanic IV Four years experience in collection and distribution maintenance. Required to have the Colorado Class 4 Distribution and Colorado Class 4 Collection NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Strong understanding of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, operations, and maintenance. 2. Strong mechanical background. 3. Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information both orally and in writing to contractors, developers, property owners, employees, consultants, and the public. 4. Ability to work alone and with others. 5. Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems construction techniques. 6. Knowledge of State and Federal regulatory requirements relating to water distribution and wastewater collection systems. 7. Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment. 8. Ability to maintain effective maintenance and inventory records. 9. Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment. 10. Ability to diagnose and determine cause and effect of pipeline and equipment malfunctions. 11. Ability to read and understand technical literature, blueprints, equipment operations, and maintenance manuals. 12. Ability to work effectively as part of a team; demonstrate professional behavior at all times; communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and customers; and resolve conflict situations effectively. 13. Ability to follow through on tasks and adapt to changing priorities, process conditions, and circumstances.

Work is performed in potentially hazardous environments: i.e. confined spaces, electrical, infectious, and mechanical hazards. May be required to report during non-scheduled hours.
