1 CAT Enterprise Glossary A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z A Activity See Development Activity. Activity Code A unique alphanumeric identifier given to each Development Activity. Activity Profile A ranking of the impact that Development Activities will have on a given position based upon the assessments completed. Activities are ordered based on the number of skills that are incomplete. Activity Profile Report A printer friendly version of the Activity Profile; done at the Position, Person, or Group level. Administrator A management role in CAT that manages main working areas within CAT: Users, Groups, Maps, Positions, Activities, etc. Assessment Process designed to identify the current development status of the Skills within a Position. All One of the available assessments: All, Some, Few, Not Assessed; indicated by a green color. Arrange By An optional date type within the Development Plan; the date the activity must be scheduled by. Assessment Dialog Box Optional assessment screen to enter assessment and notes. Assessment History A sequence of events related to the competency assessment; tab screen on the Assessment Dialog Box that shows assessment activity. Assessment Orientation Defined color area where assessment is shown on the skill description box (Participant/Supervisor).

2 Assigned Position The skill set that defines your current competence requirements; the Competence Level within each Skill that you are expected to be working towards developing. Awareness One of the four standard competence levels within CAT (Awareness, Fundamental Application, Skilled Application, Mastery). Someone with an Awareness level of a specific skill can describe an area s purpose(s) and key concepts; recognizes what can be routinely done. B Booking Start & End Dates An optional date type within the Development Plan; when the activity scheduled on the development plan is expected to finalize the booking. C CAT Competency Analysis Tool: software application designed to allow individuals to direct their own competency development. Change Password From the login screen, a user is able to change their password at any time. Initially, the system Administrator assigns a user ID and password. Classifiers Attributes that are custom configured and will allow the logical organization of Development Activities, Competence Maps, and Positions in CAT Enterprise. Competence Level The four standard competence levels for each Skill are defined by the corresponding Skill Description at the levels of Awareness, Fundamental Application, Skilled Application, and Mastery. Competency Possession of the required knowledge, skills, and attitude defined with the specific Skill Description. Competency Inventory A functional area within CAT which shows a visual representation of progress and development against a Position and allows assessment updates. Competency Inventory Report A printer-friendly view of the Competency Inventory. Competency Map A set of skills, generally for a single discipline, that have been defined within Skill Groups, Skills, and Skill Descriptions.

3 Completed A date type within the Development Plan; the scheduled Activity completion date. Confirmation Date An optional date type within the Development Plan; when the Activity was confirmed. Custom Toolbar Links Provides internal or external links to information from the CAT menu these links are optional and setup by the System Owner. D Deadline An optional date type within the Development Plan; the date the activity must be completed by. Delete Remove an item of data. A confirmation dialog will appear to indicate this is not reversible. Development Activity Learning opportunities associated with one or more Skill Descriptions to support development of those skills. E.g. Courses, work experiences, seminars, books, documents, videos, etc. Development Plan A list of development activities nominated for execution within a calendar. Allows the planning, tracking, and forecasting of development within your Assigned Position. E F Edit Make changes to an object or a set of objects. Few One of the available assessments: All, Some, Few, Not Assessed; indicated by a red color. Filter Additional criteria selection within the Search and Reporting to allow more specific selection of information. Forecast Status Projected % Developed based on assumed completion of activities on your Development Plan. Forgot Password From the login screen, a user is able to retrieve their password if they forget it. The user will be prompted to enter their address or user ID. Fundamental Application One of the four standard competence levels within CAT (Awareness, Fundamental Application, Skilled Application, Mastery).

4 Someone with a Fundamental Application level of a specific skill has the practical capacity and/or attitude necessary to recognize when to apply subject area skills in normal situations; can apply subject area skills in normal situations, with appropriate reference guides available; has actually done at least once. G Gap Analysis A functional area for determining the steps, best Development Activities; to be taken in moving from a current state to a desired future state within a given Position. Gap Analysis Report A printer-friendly view of the Gap Analysis. Grayscale (mode) User preference to render color to shades of gray within the application and reporting. Groups Consists of a number of associated Users. The members of a Group have common learning objectives or are direct reports to the same Supervisor. Growth Position Additional position(s) assigned to Participant related to their career development. H I J K High Importance An indicator setting for a single Skill Description that denotes elevated importance. A red icon is used on the user interface for the Competency Inventory and hash marks are used in reports. Home Initial screen shown after logging into CAT.

5 L Legend A popup that shows default colors and icons used within the Competency Inventory: Gap Analysis, Activity Profile, and Development Plan. Levels See Competence Level. Logout Exit CAT. M Maps See Competency Map. Mastery One of the four standard competence levels within CAT (Awareness, Fundamental Application, Skilled Application, Mastery). Someone with a Mastery level of a specific skill has the knowledge, attitude, and practical capacity to routinely handle difficult cases, analyze abnormal cases, solve difficult problems, and invent new techniques. N Not Assessed One of the available assessments: All, Some, Few, Not Assessed; indicated by a grey color. Note (Paperclip) Icon used on the Competency Inventory screen to access the assessment notes for a Skill Description. Notes Additional assessment information entered by the Participant or Supervisor. Entered when completing an assessment in the Assessment dialog screen Notes tab. O P

6 Participant A role within CAT this person uses CAT to conduct self-assessments, identify skill gaps, and choose Activities for his/her Development. Password A secret word or string of characters that is used for authentication, to prove identity or gain access into CAT. Person Profile Allows the user to update his/her profile from the Details tab following login. Q R Radio Button Allows the user to choose only one of a predefined set of options. Role Summary Summarizes the person s assigned roles within Competency Maps, Development Activities, Groups, and Positions. S Skill Series of Skill Descriptions displayed as a row in the system. Skills are contained within a Skill Group. Skill Description Series of competency statements that define a single Competence Level within a Skill. Skill Group Set of related Skills, displayed as a collapsible heading of rows with summarized information regarding assessment status. Skilled Application One of the four standard competence levels within CAT (Awareness, Fundamental Application, Skilled Application, Mastery). Someone at the Skilled Application level of a specific skill has the knowledge, attitude and practical capacity necessary to apply the skill without help or reference to notes in normal situations, solve simple problems, has done it numerous times, and can recognize abnormal situations/cases. Some One of the available assessments: All, Some, Few, Not Assessed; indicated by a gold color. Sum of Part All HI Count This is the sum of all Participant assessments set as ALL that are Hi

System Owner This person has unrestricted access to all functions in CAT. System Average Average % Developed system wide for an assigned position T Tree A tree is always present in the left-frame window and contains information in a hierarchical view. U V Users Individuals that have been setup with an account within the system. User ID Unique identifier assigned to an individual to access the CAT application.
