The Policy and Strategy and International Relations Directorates contribute towards ensuring that the strategic priorities of the Department of the Premier, and the broader Western Cape Government, are aligned with the Provincial Strategic Plan.

2 Specifically, the Policy and Strategy Chief Directorate provides professional, evidence-based policy advice to the Western Cape Executive on strategic issues through: Developing integrated policies and strategies; Implementing and coordinating some of these policies; Focussing on behavioural interventions with the purpose of changing behaviour in key policy areas; and Coordinating strategic projects through partnerships and strategic engagements The International Relations Directorate contributes towards the implementation of the Western Cape International Relations Strategy which focuses on trade, tourism and investment promotion. What will you be doing? Internship Position for the Policy, Research and Analysis Unit Policy Implementation o Assistance in the implementation of the YearBeyond programme, an academic support programme which is linked to the After School Game Changer of the Western Cape Government. Activities will include school and volunteer management, reporting, M&E, etc. o Provide support for the implementation of the Provincial Youth Development Strategy. o Assistance with the research and implementation of Behavioural Insights projects.

3 o Assistance in the organization of the International Behavioural Insights Conference. Policy Analysis o Policy commentary: When appropriate policies becomes available, comments and background research will be required. Other functions relating to policy implementation, research and analysis may arise. Internship Position for the Human Development Unit Policy Implementation o Assistance in the implementation of the Food and Nutrition Security Strategic Framework, particularly support to a number of communities of practice on aspects of food governance. o Assistance on a support for breastfeeding in the workplace design process. o Assistance with organising inputs into the development of an Early Childhood Development policy Policy Analysis o Policy commentary: When appropriate policies becomes available, comments and background research will be required. Other functions relating to policy implementation, research and analysis may arise. Internship Position for the Economic Strategy Unit

4 Policy, Research and Analysis o Assisting with research in areas relevant to the development of the Provincial Strategic Plan (PSP). Research areas will include. economic, social, environmental, infrastructure development, etc. o Comparing the policy areas of the new PSP with the election mandates of the 3 major political parties. o Research into long-term policy priorities aligned to the National Development Plan (NDP) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). o Research to support policy and law commentary. o Analysing and interpreting data and trends from indicator analysis and reviews conducted by the Strategic Management Information Chief Directorate. Internship Position for the International Relations Unit o Assistance with conducting research on topical issues in the international relations space You fulfill the following job requirements: You are a student or fresh graduate from a university, university of applied sciences or vocational colleges You are a responsible, proactive and result-driven individual You have a relevant degree (honours) or higher in the field of development studies, psychology, sustainability, international relations, social sciences or economics.

5 You are organized and detail-oriented, and can combine multiple tasks at the same time. You enjoy building networks and maintaining relations with external partners like government, NGOs and education institutions.
