2 Our Objectives To shape and influence local, regional and national strategies and policies which impact on the lives of adult carers To provide an information, advice, guidance and support service for adult carers To provide short breaks for adult carers To develop services for adult carers from the BME and LGBT communities To identify, engage with and support adult carers earlier in their caring journey To identify and develop services for working age carers To work with employers to develop carer friendly policies and practice To provide services which are of value to all adult carers across age range and condition of the cared for To develop the GP carer referral pathway across all practices in Gateshead To ensure that adult carers are listened to, respected and are able to influence and shape health and social care practice and policies To be the authoritative voice of adult carers in Gateshead. Specific Objectives of this Post To identify, engage with and support Gateshead employers by increasing awareness of carers rights, presenting the business case for supporting employees who have or may care for another person. To work with employers to develop their understanding of the often small modifications which can result in employers retaining skilled and experienced staff To provide on-going information, advice and support to employers, including support on a one to one basis, through telephone support, at the work place, or virtual support To work with Northumbria University to develop e learning packages for employers, line managers and supervisors to enable them to become carer friendly employers To promote and facilitate employers achievement of Gateshead Carers Association s (GCA) Carer Friendly Employer Award Charity registration Company registration

3 To liaise with GCA Carer Support Workers to ensure working carers receive relevant information, advice, guidance and support To support the working carers Co Production Design Group facilitated by Northumbria University To assist in the promotion of telecare services for working carers (including a carer app), to identify carers willing to participate in the free trial use of telecare support To assist Northumbria University in the evaluation of telecare support To facilitate and attend information and advice sessions for working carers in partnership with Gateshead Carers Association (GCA) carer support workers and the GCA Training Officer To work with employers to identify employees who have a caring role and ensure these employees benefit from the support services offered by (GCA). To develop and maintain links with key stakeholders including Gateshead MBC, employers and employer organisations such as the Federation of Small Businesses and North East Chamber of Commerce To contribute to the work of GCA by assisting in the development and running of events, conferences etc To represent GCA at appropriate meetings, forums and partnerships To contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the project by using the GCA Outcomes Focussed Monitoring and Evaluation Framework To produce all necessary reports as required and on time. Any other duties which the Chief Executive Officer requires which are commensurate with the post. Charity registration Company registration

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Outreach / Development Worker (Employment) Essential To have or be working towards a minimum of Level 3 Information, Advice and Guidance or equivalent qualification. At least two years experience of working in a similar outreach / engagement role An understanding of the role and contribution of unpaid carers A thorough knowledge of employment rights for carers A determined and resilient approach to engaging with employers with a good understanding of the communication behaviours needed to ensure approaches are successful. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly assimilate carers rights under the Care Act, Equalities Act and employment legislation Desirable Educated to degree level Experience of working within the voluntary sector Experience of partnership working and working with external organisations Experience of working in HR or an employment rights field. Own transport Experience of working with employers A positive, energetic and solution focussed approach Excellent IT and communication skills Able to work on own and as part of a team Able to work occasional weekends and evenings Charity registration Company registration
