Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women The paper attempts to study about need for training programs in It Sector and analyse perception of employees towards various training programs organised by the IT companies in Chennai District. With the changing environment, technologies, trend and time Indian companies have started thinking the consequence of corporate training and development of individuals as well as organizational growth. Training plays a significant role in the development of organizations, enhancing performance as well as increasing productivity, and ultimately putting companies in the best position to face competition and stay at the top. Introduction Present Scenario of business world is characterized by a growing competitiveness, market globalization and technological advances in organization. There is no doubt that organizations worldwide are striving for success and out-competing those in the same industry. In order to do so, organizations have to obtain and utilize her human resources effectively. In so doing, managers need to pay special attention to all the core functions of human resource management as this plays an important role in different organizational, social and economically related areas among others that are influential to the attainment of the organizational goals and thus organizations successful continuation in the market. Organizations invest huge capital for the development of employees performance because the performances of the employees ultimately increase the performance of the organization. With the changing environment, technologies, trend and time Indian companies have started thinking the consequence of corporate training and development of individuals as well as organizational growth. Training has now become important in every field, be it Sales, Marketing, Human Resource, Logistics, Engineering, Production and Manufacturing, Inventory Management etc. Training can be introduced simply as a process of assisting a person for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness to a particular work area by getting more knowledge and practices. Also training is important to establish specific skills, abilities and knowledge to an employee, because the organizational growth and profit are also dependent on the training. Training impacts positively on employee s performance by generating benefits to both the employees and the 1701

2 organization they work for through the development of skills, knowledge, abilities, competencies and behaviour. Training plays a significant role in the development of organizations, enhancing performance as well as increasing productivity, and ultimately putting companies in the best position to face competition and stay at the top. OBJECTIVES: To identify the need for Training in Information Technology Companies in Chennai. To study and analyse the employees perception on the Training offered in Information Technology Companies in Chennai. METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY The study involves both Primary and Secondary Data. The source material for secondary is collected through books, journals and websites. Primary Data is collected by distributing 100 questionnaires to the respondents in Chennai city. HYPOTHESIS OF THE STUDY There is no significant difference among the age of Employees with respect to Perception on Training in Information Technology Companies. REVIEW OF LITERATURE Bartleet (2001) had a research which says that there is a close relation between the perception of employees towards the training program and the organizational commitment, employee is positively linked with the perceived training ability of employees, willingness to participate, and training support from the senior staff and also the management of the organization. The result of the study of Sultana. A, et.al. (2012), conducted in telecom sector of Pakistan, states the R²as.501 which means that 50.1% of variation in employee performance is brought by training programs. Further,the T-value was 8.58 that explains training is good predictor of employee performance INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY PROFILE The Indian Information Technology Ezhildevi.S,et.al.(2014 ), (IT) sector has emerged as the growth engines of the Indian economy over the past decade. The sector contribute substantially to India s exports and GDP growth and generate massive urban employment. The 1702

3 Indian IT industry (including hardware) accounts for 7% of the global IT industry. The sector revenue as a proportion of national GDP increased from 1.2% in FY98 to approximately 8% in FY13. Large integrated players, including Indian and global IT service providers that have established their presence in India, dominate the industry. (Source: SME Cluster Series 2014, Dun & Bradstreet Report, 2014) The State of Tamil Nadu has always been in the forefront of economic growth in the country. The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Tamil Nadu stood at Rs.4,51,313 crore at constant prices in The industrial GSDP grew at an impressive rate of 9.60% from the year to at constant prices. Tamil Nadu offers an abundance of relevant skills, robust IT infrastructure. With more than 1,780 IT / IT Enabled Services (ITES) companies, over 3,75,000 professionals and annual IT exports ofrs.50,000 crore, Chennai, with its IT Bay Area, towers over other major cities as an IT and ITES powerhouse (Source : IT Department Policy Note , Tamil Nadu) ANALYSIS AND DATA INTERPRETATION TABLE 1.1 FREQUENCY TABLE SHOWING AGE OF THE RESPONDANTS AGE Frequency Below to Above The above table shows that 40% of the respondents are in the age group of years, 28% of the respondents fall under the age group of years, 26 % of the respondents fall in the group of below 25 years and 06% of the respondents are above the age of 45 years. 6 AGE OF THE RESPONDENTS AND EMPLOYEE S PERCEPTION ON TRAINING IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES. The researcher has taken 5% as level of significance. In order to know the level of association between the age group of the respondents and perception on Training in Information Technology Companies, the researcher has used one way Anova test and the results are given below: HYPOTHESIS H0: There is no association between age group of the respondents and perception on Training in Information Technology Companies. HA: There is association between age group of the respondents and perception on Training in Information Technology Companies. This implies the fact that there is no association between age group of the respondents and perception on Training in Information Technology Companies FINDINGS The results of the present study analyze the perception of employees of IT companies toward Training. Based on the study, it is concluded that the perception of the employees towards training in IT organizations is more than average and effective. SUGGESSION 1706

7 The management of IT companies has still to take more steps for improving and making the present practice of training as the best in the industry. IT organizations should invest sufficiently in developing the skills and competencies of their employees CONCLUSION This study has been done with 100 respondents to know the perception of Employees towards Training program with regard to age, of the respondents. The various aspects of the employee s perception have been analyzed through various questions.
