2 Programme on Understanding & Analysing Financial Statements Context Money is the language of business, as it is a common denominator of all activities and transactions performed. The material consumed, man-hours spend, units of electricity consumed, advertising rupee spend,manpower costs, units sold etc. are all translated to monetary units and aggregated into financial statements. For the Non Finance Line Manager, it is critical and important that he /she is able to understand the consequences of his actions as it manifest in financial figures/ terms. Understanding the chemistry of earnings and performance can foster the quality of decisions related to Investing, Operations, Performance, Rewards and future course of action. This programme facilitates the participants to learn the art and science of analysing financial statements to understand business performance from various perspectives; interpret current operations and forecast future performance to enable decision-making. The Programme is primarily targeted at the Senior and Middle Level Managers of a business and who does not have a formal finance background and yet his/her role makes a huge impact on business performance and consequently gets reflected in financial statements! He / She could be in any business function, such as Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, IT and HR. Surely, with better appreciation of the financial statements, the Line Manager will be able to make more informed decisions for the business. Methodology The methodology of the programme would include an appropriate mix of lectures, discussions, case studies, exercises, group activities and will include practice presentations by participants. 4 About the faculty - Prof. Vandana Zachariah Prof. Vandana Zachariah has more than 33 years of experience in practice and teaching. Her primary expertise is in Accounting, Financial Management and Management Accounting. She is also interested in Behavioural Finance and Capital markets. She has been actively involved in corporate training for IT, ITES, Automobile, Telecom and Infrastructure sector. Her Certificate in Finance program offered by LIBA Management Development Centre is a very popular program and XXI batches of participants have successfully completed it. Prior to joining LIBA she practiced with Ford Rhodes Parks and Company, Mumbai and Chennai. She has also taught at ICAI, ICSI and Kothari Academy. She was awarded the Dewang Mehta Business School Award for Best Professor of Financial Management 2013 by Hindustan Unilever Ltd. Her current interest includes evaluations of CSR programs and management of NPOs. She is the Chairperson of the LIBA Alumni Co-ordination Committee and is also a member of the Admission Committee and Anti Ragging Committee at LIBA. Academic Biography She passed her B.Com (Hons) from University of Calcutta and is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. She holds a doctorate in Behavioural Finance from the University of Madras. She has done a certification program in management of NPOs from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and is pursuing a an Auditor accreditation on Social Accounting and Audit with CSIM.
