4 5-1 EXECUTIVE REPORT TO HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE TO: FROM: HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE Manny Figueiredo, Director of Education DATE: May 7, 2018 PREPARED BY: Jamie Nunn, Superintendent of Human Resources RE: Staffing, Recruitment and Hiring Update Spring 2018 Action Monitoring Background Throughout this school year, the Human Resources Department has maintained a focus on the recruitment, hiring and staffing of both permanent and occasional employment positions. Given our needs for September 2018, we have been actively hiring for all board positions. Staff Observations: Elementary Teacher Staffing Throughout the school year, HWDSB has hired 108 permanent elementary teachers. As of the time of this report, we have received 55 retirements for June and we anticipate we will hire an additional 60 permanent teachers for September given our needs. We have no redundant elementary teachers this spring. Considering our needs in elementary, we have completed two rounds of hiring for our Elementary Occasional Teacher Roster. In total, we have hired 211 occasional teachers since September 2017 and we anticipate we will hire another 140 occasional teachers this spring. We continue to actively recruit and interview monthly for French-speaking positions and have actively recruited at Teacher Employment Fairs in Montreal, Toronto, Sudbury and Ottawa. Secondary Teacher Staffing Throughout the school year, HWDSB has hired 58 permanent secondary teachers. As of the time of this report, we have received 33 retirements for June and we anticipate we will continue to expand teachers who have less than a full entitlement with every additional retirement or resignation. We have no redundant secondary teachers this spring. Considering our needs in secondary, we have completed two rounds of hiring for our Secondary Occasional Teacher Roster. In total, we have hired 87 occasional teachers since September and we anticipate we will hire another 50 secondary occasional teachers. Similar to elementary, we continue to actively recruit and interview monthly for French-speaking positions and have visited Job Fairs in Montreal, Toronto, Sudbury and Ottawa.
