Launched in 1998 with nothing more than a used Caterpillar dozer and an entrepreneurial spirit, Bouchier has grown to be a leading provider of integrated site services to the Athabasca Oil Sands region. From our base in Fort McKay, Alberta, the company now employs more than 700 dedicated staff and commands a fleet of over 200 pieces of equipment and 50 vehicles. THE OPPORTUNITY The COO is accountable for the overall operational management and delivery of all contracts. The COO manages and oversees clients, customers, consultants, and suppliers as well as partner interfaces and relationships. They ensure a high-profile link of accountability to operations defined service deliverables and metrics as well as a positive image for the Bouchier Group operations management team. The COO addresses and balances appropriate client concerns and opportunities while ensuring alignment with Bouchier s business strategies. The COO positively contributes to the strategic direction, performance, growth, and profitability of the business. The COO will also ensure that operations are carried out to the highest standards of Health and Safety at all times and without compromise. Operational Accountabilities Lead a diverse operational team in the consistent implementation of service delivery solutions across the business Drive the implementation of best in-class business practices that promote excellence across all contracts Bouchier Group Chief Operating Officer 2

3 In conjunction with the operational leadership team members, establish the performance metrics for all account locations/facilities within designated jurisdiction and evaluate existing service level agreements related to profitability, risk, and fulfillment of contractual obligations Influence the outcomes of all contractual anomalies/opportunities to mitigate exposure to both parties. Champion compliance with all applicable legislative, regulatory, and code requirements and ensure full compliance with company governance and all other standards and associated policies and processes Through strong leadership, generate and inspire a robust occupational health and safety culture In consultation with the HR team, develop sustainable Human Resource strategy and succession planning Lead the development of business wide initiatives including quality improvement and re-bid strategies Growth Strategies: In collaboration with the CEO and Executive Management Team, develop an overall growth strategy and direction for the business Collaborate and endorse bid teams in support of operational strategy and directions in new and existing markets Collaborate with all internal and external parties to ensure that bids and contracts have a balance of maximizing profit with minimizing risk Retain existing client base and develop strategies to do more for existing clients Financial Accountabilities: Establish budgets with operational leaders and obtain CEO endorsement Weekly monitoring of actual P&L performance metrics against budget and provide direction for realignments as necessary Lead a strong commercial culture to ensure cash flow is managed and maximized at all times Sponsor and support the procurement strategy to maximize profitability Approve the client and customer invoicing from business units Responsible for the financial and commercial performance of each contract Oversee and provide direction to achieve financial success and performance targets Achieve operational excellence wherever possible by setting quality and profit improvement stretch goals that will challenge the operational leaders People Accountabilities: Through leadership excellence; lead, recruit, develop, and retain great people to deliver contracted service in the most efficient and effective manner Set performance and development objectives for direct reports and review quarterly Ensure same approach and mechanisms are used for all staff within area of responsibility Ensure direct reports understand business strategy and customer requirements as well as the operational and financial performance of the contracted service and the company Act as a role model for people management processes, ensuring processes are followed and clarify objectives, actively manage performance, and develop skills within the team Bouchier Group Chief Operating Officer 3

4 In conjunction with HR and SMT, develop key People succession plans to support sustainable leadership and ongoing growth of the division FIRST YEAR PRIORITIES Know, demontrate, and lead by the company s core values. Establish relationships with current clients and develop new relationships with potential clients Develop trust and credibility with each department. Motivate the teams and develop measures of engagement Ensure the right people are in the right positions, build capacity, and ensure succession plans are in place Review the organization and business structures to ensure they best meet current needs and market trends THE PERSON A minimum of 10 years of related work experience at a senior management level, preferably in the oil and gas industry Bachelor s Degree in related field such as engineering. Equivalent experience and education would also be considered Health and Safety certifications and qualifications Previous experience in leading operations-based business contracts and/or providing key support to professional functions Exposure to environments with objective service performance metrics would be an asset KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Senior level experience contributing to corporate and divisional business strategies and growth Must live in or relocate to the Wood Buffalo Region Have a proven track record of successful project execution Experience working with First Nations groups in a project setting Proven leadership in a changing environment while creating high levels of employee engagement. Able to lead and manage the operations and be effective and responsive in implementing strategies that address business requirements and align to the company s strategic plan. Business Development: Proven experience and a demonstrated track record of delivering against sales targets. Has a passionate desire to win in the marketplace and grow the business. Demonstrated history of setting ambitious goals and delivering results effectively and efficiently, and ensuring customer interests are served. Business Acumen: Ability to navigate financial information, build business cases, and make sound commercial judgements. Able to execute a compelling vision in keeping with the Bouchier Group business model. Makes decisions that balance a variety of factors (e.g. cost, risk, short-term vs. long-term impact) to achieve an optimal outcome. Understands industry trends with an ability to deal with complexity, market inflections, and disruptive market forces. Possesses a flexibility and willingness to roll up sleeves, and take on any task that needs to be accomplished.
