We were one of the first employers to establish a CA Training Office in Canada and the first to express interest in supporting students in their career path towards CA qualification in Manitoba. We know the education requirements of the CA program are unique and challenging. We want you to succeed as a member of our team. 5 The training you want, the balance you need Working to achieve your CA designation is not just your goal, it s ours. Chartered Accountants play an important role in our organization s success so naturally, we want to hire the best. As a qualified student, you will work on diverse projects in a challenging environment that will help you hone your skills. You will perform meaningful work in a variety of accounting disciplines, gaining a wealth of experience along the way. We know that achieving your designation takes hard work and commitment, and we have developed an environment that affords you a healthy balance between work, education and a personal life as you work toward your goal. We give you time for studying, exams and classroom attendance as well as access to the training programs you will need. You will perform meaningful work that contributes to our organization s accounting and financial goals through rotations in at least two of these areas: Financial Reporting* You will assist with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and performance measurement reporting and analysis which will include consolidating financial information from Great-West Lifeco s operating companies in Canada, the United States and Europe. You will also participate in a variety of special projects to support our accounting and control reporting requirements. Internal Audit* You will initially be responsible for executing audit testing for a variety of financial and attest engagements with a gradual progression to assisting with the planning of audits and the reporting of results. This will provide you with the opportunity to work with a number of different business areas within Great-West Life. Investment Division You will assist with the financial reporting and analysis of the company s Investment Division results including the preparation of the investment related notes to the financial statements for all of Great-West Life s entities on a quarterly and annual basis. You will gain an understanding of the difference between accounting for investments in accordance with IFRS and accounting for investments for tax purposes. Rotations in the Investment Division can include placement in our Segregated Funds Financial Services or GWL Realty Advisors areas. Continued on reverse

6 Taxation You will assist with the preparation of Great-West Life s tax provision and note disclosure in the financial statements, prepare various corporate tax filings, and assist with corporate tax planning opportunities by researching various tax topics and performing analysis as required. Information Services Financial Management You will assist with the financial management of Great-West Life s Information Services (IS) Division, providing financial analysis and performance measurement reporting. You will also participate in a variety of special projects to support the company s IS needs, including assisting with corporate tax filings related to Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Investment Tax Credits and assisting with IS-related Enterprise Risk Assessment. Performance Management You will assist with the financial planning, reporting and analysis of Great-West Life s operating expenses for senior management and the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. You may also assist with preparation of the annual plan and participate in business case and financial analysis for strategic projects and/or procurement while gaining experience with the general ledger reporting tools. Management Reporting and Analysis You will assist in the preparation of the Management s Discussion and Analysis for review by the company s senior management. You will be involved in preparing quarterly and annual compliance reporting. You will also be involved in researching, applying IFRS requirements and preparing accounting updates for the company s finance team. The voice of experience Our mentorship program pairs you with someone who s been there, done that. In business as in life, there is no substitute for experience. Our CA mentorship program pairs you with a highly skilled CA a voice of experience you can turn to for guidance and help. Before you start your first training module, you will also have the opportunity to take part in a CASB orientation session that will help you to get comfortable with the program and prepare for a successful and positive experience. Before the start of each module, and throughout your training, your mentor will meet with you to touch base, answer any questions you may have, and help you identify any areas for which you feel you may require additional support. For each module we will have an in-house practice exam day. On this day, you will get together with your fellow students to write a practice exam in a simulated exam setting. Your practice exam will be marked by our pool of evaluators, who will then meet with you to debrief the case and offer suggestions for improvements. If you would like additional cases evaluated, simply go to your mentor and ask for assistance. We will also provide you with comprehensive Uniform Evaluation (UFE) preparation support including paid examination fees, a mentor program, enrollment in a nationally recognized UFE preparation training program and study days while you are preparing to write the final exam. Great-West Life has had successful UFE writers each year since As you progress through your rotations, you will be given progressively challenging assignments with more responsibility. Towards the end of the rotation, you will be able to provide some supervision to incoming CA students. *Participation in either the Financial Reporting or Internal Audit rotation is mandatory.
