7 Learner's Testimonies I was unemployed before starting an Apprenticeship Programme for Accounting. Having the opportunity to complete one week work experience gave me the opportunity to gain the skills needed in the work place before starting my Apprenticeship programme. During my time as an apprentice, I gained a lot of valuable experience as well as a recognised qualification. I can now confidently carry out my role as a Finance Assistant. I m very grateful to MI and all the staff that supported me throughout my journey. Madonna Kodwiw I responded to an advert for an Apprentice, having been unemployed for quite some time. I have been working for MI ComputSolutions for 7 months now and I am thoroughly enjoying the experience. When I first joined MI Skills Development Centre I was shy and nervous but everyone made me feel very welcome and I settled in quickly. This was a complete new career change for me having worked in Nursery and I knew very little about Admin work. All the staff were friendly and happy to help with any questions that I had. They understood that I was new so they took time to explain everything until I fully understood. I am enjoying learning about Business Admin while I m working. I can use information I have learnt in class to help with my day to day work and then I use my experience on the job to help with my business course. Emma Stocker Before I started my Apprenticeship on 3rd June 2013, I was on another Apprenticeship in Central London at RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland). I didn t end up finishing my Apprenticeship with them as I didn t feel like it was the sector I wanted to be in. When I started working at MI Skills Development Centre, I didn t have much confidence, where I wouldn t speak to anyone that I didn t know. As my Apprenticeship went on, I have felt that I am more confident in myself. Also my role a Trainee Recruitment Consultant has boosted my confidence a lot, as this requires me to constantly speak to external organisations and my learners. I have made good mates with everyone in the organisation from both Brixton and Deptford. I have also learnt new skills that I never had before. I have more telephone confidence, improved my computer skills, and even improved my English and Maths skills in which I passed with Henrietta (Tutor) in my class on Wednesdays. Lewis Holloway 6
