5 Growing our business in 17/18 The Careers and Enterprise Company funded us to deliver bespoke work experience placements to 9 schools and colleges to support SEND and vulnerable students in the Norwich Opportunity Area. Norfolk County Council WEX Norfolk t i t l e of programme WEX Norfolk Employability for All k e y a c t i v i t i e s Work experience and other employer-based experiences of work t h e m e s Bespoke employer based experiences of work for vulnerable young people including those with SEND pa r t n e r s Funded by The WEX Norfolk team work in partnership with over 5,000 employers across Norfolk w h o is benefitting Young people in Years 10 13, including young people who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) or other additional needs Norfolk County Council aims to support excellence in education for all young people and to support their development and progression into high quality employment. NCC s Work Placement Support Service supports schools and colleges in the Opportunity Area to organise high quality work experience programmes for their students in key stage 4 and post-16 education. w e b s i t e The WEX Norfolk Employability for All programme will provide brokered bespoke employer-based work experience placements for vulnerable key stage 4 and post-16 students in complex needs schools, the short stay school as well as in mainstream schools and the college within the Opportunity Area. The service will: Offer practical, appropriate and timely support to schools and employers to organise and deliver high quality experience of work programmes for the most vulnerable young people in complex needs schools, the short stay school or in mainstream schools/colleges. Work with staff to support SEND and other vulnerable students to access bespoke, brokered work placement opportunities and other experiences of work with local employers to meet individual and curriculum needs and to contribute to the delivery of 4 employer encounters for all students. Promote the benefits to employers, young people and parents/carers of all young people engaging in meaningful work experience placements in key stage 4 and post-16. This service complements the existing work placement health and safety checking services offered by Norfolk County Council and other providers. 5

6 An initiative supported by Customer Developments To help support you, our customers, we developed and launched new guides and templates; The Best Practice Guide to organising and managing work experience placements for schools and colleges, a Student Monitoring Placement form and a template Letter for Parents about the school/college s work experience programme. All these (and more!) are available in the useful documents section on the home tab or via the sub headings on the WEX Norfolk database. 8 Updates for 18/19 We are working on a number of developments which we will be delivering across the year - please keep an eye open for announcements on our social media platforms and via the WEX Norfolk database. Student Portal We are developing our Student Portal, a new tool for young people which enables them to directly access our database of employers engaged in work experience and search/obtain contacts for appropriate opportunities. It will also provide regularly updated information relevant to young people on work experience. Currently available as a pilot for testing and with the aim of being fully released towards the end of If you have a group of students who would work with us on the pilot and provide honest and constructive feedback, then we would love to hear from you!
