The postholder will play a key role in the Communications, Media and Campaigns team, producing high quality video and multimedia content, helping to embed the new GMB website, and growing social media audiences and engagement. The role will be key in developing modern union communications, and in supporting innovation within digital organising and campaigning. 2 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTABLE TO: GRADE: HOURS OF WORK: PLACE OF WORK: Production and Communications Officer Head of Communications, Media and Campaigns 5 ( 27,672 to 31,466 per annum) Unspecified National Office MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Head of Communications, Media and Campaigns, the post holder will be responsible for the production of printed and digital design and content to support and promote GMB campaigns. Take responsibility for multimedia production this includes devising, developing and producing video and other multimedia content and supporting GMB s digital and social media strategy. SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES Design and produce professional print publications to support and advance GMB campaigns for GMB regions, sections and activists Design and produce member communications to support industrial and political campaigns, ballots and in raising workplace issues Design and produce materials for GMB activists to use in their workplaces, providing easy to use templates to help branches communicate with their members Commission and work with external design and print companies where inhouse provision is not available Commission, edit and write articles for GMB s website and other editorial content as and when required Ensure that the GMB website and all digital content and social media is up to date and responsive to current events and member inquiries. Administer GMB s social media activity and implement strategies to grow audiences and lists, and increase digital presence

3 Generate and administer media and member contact databases Monitor trends in social media tools, trends and applications and appropriately apply that knowledge to our communication channels Develop user journeys across GMB communication channels Produce and commission audio-visual content for GMB s website and other channels Work with the Head of Communications, Media and Campaigns, regions and sections to deliver member engagement projects that support GMB campaigns and aid retention of GMB members Support GMB s media relations work, including drafting press releases, contacts list and dealing with media queries when cover is needed. Develop and manage reciprocal working relationships with external suppliers and contractors and to oversee the production of work done on behalf of the department Manage budgets for communications projects as set by the Head of Communications, Media and Campaigns to facilitate the production and distribution of materials and merchandise to support and drive departmental campaigns Produce campaign essentials, often on short timescales, such as s, info graphics, leaflets, videos and microsites Share responsibility for setting up and managing the daily running of the Press Office during GMB Congress, including managing communications to delegates throughout congress Be responsible for the smooth running of congress communications with GMB members, including the congress live stream, any social media feeds in the main hall and all member communications. Work with the General Secretary s office, the Congress Working Party and external agencies to produce GMB Congress materials, designs, branding and merchandise Design and produce materials for rallies and events. Other Special projects and responsibilities as required by the Head of Communications, Media and Campaigns Being on call to take press calls when cover is needed and to provide emergency design and communications support if issues arise which may require out of hours working.

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION The post holder should be: Calm under pressure and able to juggle multiple competing demands Confident in selling stories to the press, becoming an instant expert in the subject at hand Capable of working without supervision and demonstrate good initiative in dealing with unanticipated problems and identifying appropriate solutions Creative and able to find angles, events and set pieces that stand out Committed to the aims and objectives of the trade union movement Strong attention to detail and accuracy is a must, producing content that will be distributed to media outlets and online Experience within a campaigning or membership organisation environment Experience of devising and delivering training Demonstrable animation and/or illustration skills Experience of managing organisational or campaign social media accounts Experience in web development technologies including; HTML, CSS and Javascript Experience with social media tools and techniques, including segmentation, targeting and analytics Qualifications The post holder will be expected to have either relevant professional qualifications/training in multimedia/video communications or equivalent professional experience. Skills and Knowledge At least two years experience in a media or communications role Proven ability to write clearly and concisely, for a range of key target audiences Proven track record of producing high quality print and online content Up to date knowledge of current affairs, news and politics Skills and Knowledge: digital, design and multimedia Proven ability to produce excellent content for print, web and social media Social media management skills Experience of impact reporting and analytics tools Experience with online marketing Video editing skills Sound editing skills

5 Graphic design skills (Adobe Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator) Experience of using professional video/photographic equipment and editing processes to deliver high quality multimedia content Familiarity with video/image editing software (e.g. Adobe CC suite of software including; Premiere, After Effects and Illustrator) High level design skills for online and print (e.g. Adobe InDesign /Illustrator /Photoshop) Demonstrable experience of undertaking multimedia projects from conception to post-production Excellent writing skills and ability to tailor messages to different audiences Track record of using content management systems Track record of using customer relationship management systems Photography skills Skills and Knowledge: production management Track record of meeting deadlines and budget management Proven experience of maintaining strong relationships with external communications suppliers Proven experience of producing content for web and print - publications, infographics, newsletters Ability to differentiate between messages for internal and external audiences.
