We won t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. We provide advice and support to empower anybody experiencing a mental health problem and we campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Mind employs about 200 staff and we have a small team of volunteers. Most staff are based in Stratford, London, there is an office in Cardiff and Manchester and there are a number of dispersed staff working across England and Wales. As Senior Community Fundraising Officer, you will be responsible for the development, management and delivery of key income streams within Community Fundraising in order to achieve net income targets. You will manage financial resources as well as external agencies, permanent staff, temporary staff and/or volunteers when necessary. You will be required to develop the community fundraising portfolio, identifying areas for income growth and make independent day-to-day decisions (within Public Fundraising strategic guidelines). Scope of the job The Community & Events Fundraising team sits within the Public Fundraising Unit of Mind s Fundraising Department and currently generates approx. 3m p.a. net income for Mind s work, of which 700k is generated from Community Fundraising Senior Community Fundraising Officer JD+PS April 2015 Page 1 of 6

2 Community Fundraising income is generated from a varied portfolio of activities including Do Your Own Thing community activity, giving in celebration, student fundraising, seasonal fundraising and active challenges including skydiving and overseas challenges. Mind is also developing a community fundraising product which will be piloted in 2014 for further development over the next five years. You will manage the portfolio of community fundraising activity, devising and delivering marketing strategies to ensure the activities attract the target number of participants and meet budgeted income targets as well as developing and implementing new activities to grow income. You will plan and implement recruitment and retention strategies and oversee the supporter journey and administration of community fundraising participants to ensure their support is maximised. You will be required to monitor and report to the Community & Events Fundraising Manager on budget information and other key performance indicators and forecast income at regular supervisions. You will be responsible for line managing one Community Fundraising Coordinator, ensuring they meet their objectives including conducting regular supervisions and annual appraisals. You will need to lead a team as well as be a team player. Reporting to the Community and Events Fundraising Manager, you will also be part of a team working together closely and collectively to drive community and events fundraising within the wider Public Fundraising Team, Fundraising Department and other stakeholder teams across Mind in order to maximise impact and outcomes. Mind aims to ensure that the needs and interests of mental health service users, women and black and minority ethnic communities, disabled people and lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and people of all ages are reflected in all its activities. You will be expected to contribute to this aim. Key responsibilities 1. Manage, deliver and evaluate a range of community fundraising activities from planning to delivery. 2. Prepare fundraising evaluation reports for the Community and Events Fundraising Manager, including analysis of financial and non-financial KPIs and developing trends to inform development of the activity and decisions on current and future community fundraising portfolio. 3. Input into the development of the Community and Events Fundraising team strategy, identifying and advising on potential areas for income growth. 4. As directed by the Community and Events Fundraising Manager, set and manage annual budgets relating to the specific community fundraising activities and contribute to the overall budget setting process for the Community and Events Fundraising Team. 5. Meet agreed personal and team income targets, monitoring and providing monthly updates on income and expenditure and forecasting income and expenditure to year end. 6. 3 7. Work with the Communications team to produce marketing and fundraising materials that comply with Mind s brand guidelines. 8. Monitor and update Mind s website and social media channels to maximise community fundraising exposure and ensure copy complies with Mind s brand and web guidelines. 9. Devise retention and remittance communication strategies and oversee the delivery of supporter communications for community fundraising participants by the Community Fundraising Coordinator. 10. Work with the Data and Supporter Care team to maintain high standards of data integrity and ensure that effective data management systems are in place to help deliver fundraising and other supporter communications. 11. Oversee administration of Community Fundraising activity, ensuring high customer care standards as set out in the team process maps are maintained by the Community Fundraising Coordinator. 12. Support the Community Fundraising Coordinator to answer enquiries from supporters during busy periods in relation to large-scale events and promotional activities. 13. Maintain current and develop new relationships with high value (Gold) community fundraising supporters. 14. Work with teams within Fundraising Department to proactively maximise potential of other income streams including agreeing business rules for communication and supporter journeys. 15. Manage working relationships with key fundraising suppliers, compiling and agreeing contracts and service levels agreements. 16. Attend key event fundraising events within Mind s portfolio including Virgin London Marathon, Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon and BUPA Great Runs Series as well as other events throughout the year. 17. Line manage Community Fundraising Coordinator including setting objectives at annual appraisal, monitoring delivery of objectives at regular supervision, monitoring training and development needs. 18. Identify need for temporary staff members and volunteers as necessary and manage their performance. 19. Deputise for the Community and Events Fundraising Manager where necessary. 20. Undertake any other duties compatible with the nature and grade of post as may be required. Expectations 1. Attend and contribute to appropriate internal meetings, training, supervision and the appraisal process. 2. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (e.g. Charities Act, Data protection). 3. Keep up to date with developments within the charity/not for profit sector. 4. Work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and overnights when required. 5. 4 Mind (National Association for Mental Health) Person specification: Senior Community Fundraising Officer Essential criteria 1. Relevant demonstrable community fundraising experience including achieving fundraising targets. 2. Up to date and thorough knowledge of the principles and practice of community fundraising, charity legislation (in relation to fundraising and volunteering) and of the general fundraising from individuals and groups landscape. 3. Experience of planning, development and implementation in community fundraising. 4. Experience of producing evaluations on fundraising activities, analysing results and making recommendations. 5. Experience of planning, developing and managing projects and budgets including forecasting, monitoring and regular reporting of outcome against target. 6. Experience of devising and delivering marketing strategies via a wide range of channels including digital and print. 7. Experience of donor relationship management programmes and database marketing and development. 8. Experience of managing third party suppliers and ensuring they deliver service level agreements. 9. Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate information to a variety of audiences in both written and verbal form including presentations. 10. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and take responsibility for own workloads, handle multiple priorities and work independently as well as part of a team. 11. Experience of line management including being able to delegate effectively, meeting deadlines and performance targets. 12. Experience of working collaboratively across the Mind network. 13. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with people at all levels and in all walks of like, face to face, on the telephone and by letter and , in English. 14. Excellent IT skills, including Word and Excel and using social media. 15. Willingness and ability to travel throughout England and Wales and to work unsocial hours and/or stay overnight on occasions. 16. Understanding of and commitment to the aims and values of Minds including a willingness to contribute to furthering equal opportunities and mental health user involvement policies throughout all work. Desirable criteria 1. Direct or indirect experience of mental health problems. 2. Experience of working in an organisation with a federated structure. 3. 5 Mind (National Association for Mental Health) Additional information Senior Community Fundraising Officer Conditions of employment In the light of legislation [Section 8 Asylum and Immigration Act, January 1997], as a condition of being able to commence employment with Mind, the successful candidate will be required to provide documentation to prove that they are able to work in the UK. Such documents will include one or more of the following, as appropriate: National Insurance number Birth certificate or British passport Certificate of registration, or naturalisation as a British citizen Passport or documentation evidencing citizenship of an EEA country Probation The appointment is subject to a probation period of six months Salary Grade D of Mind's salary scales. Starting salary 29,630 per annum plus 2,992 per annum geographical weighting, followed by five annual increments to 34,589 per annum. Increments will be subject to annual review in accordance with Mind s procedures. Hours of work/flexible working hours A standard 35 hours per week within 8.00am to 7.30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding one hour break for lunch. Mind operates a flexible working hours scheme whereby members of staff can vary the time they start and finish work within the parameters agreed by their line managers. However, the core period of 10.00am to 4.00pm (excluding lunch break) are the times during which you must be at work. Time off will be given for work outside the standard hours. Overtime is not payable.
