But how do you provide support and ensure your own wellbeing when a client, fellow volunteer or friend is dealing with a complicated or difficult situation? This course is designed to provide volunteers with the confidence to effectively communicate with others, and the tools to provide support and comfort without being drawn into a situation. You will learn how to: Empathise with others, without becoming personally invested in a situation. Actively listen to those around you. Support someone to come to their own conclusion or solution without providing advice. Effectively use positive communication to engage and converse with others. Protect yourself and support your own wellbeing. Duration: Full day training 2

Effective understanding and application of professional and personal boundaries underpins all work in the community sector, particularly for volunteers. Through this course you will learn how to set limits and create emotional and physical space between yourself and others. These healthy boundaries are a fundamental requirement for your work in order to keep you and your clients safe. 6

8 DISABILITY INCLUSION Any person with a disability, if you asked them, would tell you that it s no secret that some people just don t know how to engage with them. And many people without disability and without much experience of disability would tell you, if they were honest, that sometimes, they just don t know what to do around a person with a disability. Often, when we don t know what to do, we do nothing and avoid those awkward situations with all our might. Or we do what we think is right but it just doesn t feel right. If this is you, come along to the Disability Inclusion Workshop for a conversation on including people with disability in your volunteer work, community, and life. 7
