1 REACT BASKETBALL INVERCLYDE DEVELOPMENT OFFICER POST ROLE DESCRIPTION EMPLOYER: TEAM: POST: SALARY: LENGTH: WEEKLY HOURS: LOCATION: OFFICE BASE: RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: React Basketball, Registered Charity SC Leadership React Basketball Development Officer (Inverclyde) 22,000 PA (Funded by Young Start) 2 Year Post 42 hours per week Inverclyde Area Hub TBC Head of Youth Development & local Area Management Team Coaches and General Volunteers PURPOSE OF ROLE: The primary purpose of React Basketball, Registered Charity SC045050, is the advancement of public participation in recreational, grass-roots basketball among children and young people. The secondary purpose is the advancement of citizenship through teaching and instilling the five REACT values, which are Respect, Enable, Achievable, Community and Togetherness. The role of the React Basketball Development Officer (Inverclyde) is to grow and develop the Inverclyde Area Hub of React Basketball. This primarily includes, but not limited to, increasing levels of public participation among children & young people, growing local Area Hub membership and empowering and equipping young people with the necessary tools to coach basketball. The Development Officer will also work to improve and develop overall sustainability of the Area Hub, both in membership and finances, and will be expected to work with various external agencies for the development of the Area Hub. The Development Officer will also play a role in the continuous monitoring and development of the React Basketball Player Development Model and Coaching Curriculum at a local level.

2 MAIN RESPONSIBILTIES OF THE REACT BASKETBALL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER: Increasing levels of public participation in basketball, through the Inverclyde Area Hub, among children & young people aged 5-25 years Increasing and sustaining the level of active 5-25 year old playing members within the Inverclyde Area Hub Increasing and sustaining the number of young people, aged years, qualified as basketball coaches and delivering on behalf of the Inverclyde Area Hub Delivering a Community based Coach Education programme for young people aged years Providing effective mentorship and further development opportunities for young people, aged years, through the Inverclyde Area Hub Planning, Coordinating and Delivering a comprehensive timetable of extra-curricular school and community basketball sessions Working in partnership with Inverclyde Active Schools & Sports Development Team to provide a pathway of progression from extra-curricular school basketball to Inverclyde Area Hub community sessions Developing the participants of the programme (players) inline with the React Basketball Player Development Model and Coaching Curriculum, and Team GB Skills Guide Working in partnership with key agencies such as Inverclyde Council & Inverclyde Leisure, Young Start, Police Scotland, Inverclyde Foodbank, CVS Inverclyde and other agencies as directed by your line-manager Creating and developing new working relationships with external agencies that support and further benefit the delivery of Inverclyde Area Hub services Working in conjunction with the support programmes of React Basketball to provide further benefit/opportunities to the recruited members of the Inverclyde Area Hub. Programmes such as Active Basketball Girls To act as the Inverclyde Area Hub representative at Inverclyde Community Sport Hub programme delivered by sportscotland and ASSD Inverclyde ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL REACT BASKETBALL STAFF, WHETHER PAID OF VOLUNTARY: Upholding and Demonstrating the five core REACT values and ensuring value talks are delivered to a highly effective standard Upholding the React Basketball Constitution, Duty to Care Policy and other relevant policies and procedures Adhering to the React Basketball Player Development Model and Coaching Curriculum For monitoring and, if necessary, dealing with the behaviour of participants that attend the services offered by the assigned Area Hub Attending monthly Leadership and, if necessary, Management Team meetings and providing relevant information

3 Providing an accurate monthly report of the progress on designated role and Area Hub Depending on line-level; appropriately collecting, recording and depositing of training and event monies/fees ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF ROLE: This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior any form of work taking place within React Basketball or any if its Area Hubs. React Basketball Development Officer Experience and Knowledge Essential Can clearly articulate an understanding of the aims and outcomes of React Basketball, including our five core values A comprehensive understanding of the positive benefits that arise from regular physical activity An understanding of the wider societal benefits that arise from teaching values through sport A comprehensive understanding of the Team GB Skills Guide and relevant Youth Development Models A comprehensive experience of working with children & young people, through basketball, in a primary and secondary school setting A comprehensive experience of developing children and young people, through basketball, from the participatory development performance stages of development Proven track record of project management and development Proven track record on ensuring sustainability of prior projects Desirable Experience of working within a primary or secondary school establishment, and educating children/young people within the parameters of Curriculum for Excellence

4 Knowledge of physical activity planning and proven record of experience in sports development planning Qualifications and Training: Job Specific Requirements: Educated to Diploma level, or can demonstrate excellent on-job experiences Qualified in UKCC Level 2 Basketball Coaching Qualified in scuk Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport Qualified in HSE Emergency First Aid at Work, or equivalent NGB recognised course Trained to Positive Coaching Scotland: Double Goal Coach level A member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme via Volunteer Scotland Disclosure Services Can effective use Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint Can clearly demonstrate the ability to build effective and strong working relationships with external agencies to achieve positive results Full Clean British Driver s License, including access to transport Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and work on own initiative Ability to be flexible around the needs and demands of the job/area Hub, which includes daytime, evening and weekend work Ability to effectively lead a diverse team of people to achieve Charitable aims/outcomes, including those of the Inverclyde Area Hub Educated to Master level Qualified in UKCC Level 3 Basketball Coaching Qualified as a Child Protection, Emergency First Aid or Positive Coaching Scotland tutor Trained in scuk Disability Awareness and Inclusion Ability to coordinate across various programme delivered across React Basketball areas
