1 NOTTINGHAMSHIRE POLICE JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Department/Location: Responsible to: Leadership and Management Development Consultant HR & OD - Leadership and Management Development Date: July 2013 JOB PURPOSE Develop, plan and co-ordinate leadership and management development interventions and initiatives, coaching and mentoring schemes, and talent management programmes. Ensure all activity supports and enhances performance by ensuring that all initiatives are performance driven, responsive to business need and contribute to sustainable improvements in organisational performance. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1 Liaise with management to determine needs, learning methods for management development including leadership, coaching, mentoring and talent management programmes for the force. 2 Co-ordinate and plan all management and leadership development as required. 3 Undertake leadership and management development needs analysis to determine performance gaps and co-ordinate the evaluation of programmes. 4 Design, develop and deliver leadership and management development programmes and coaching activity as required. 5 Facilitate leadership development interventions. 6 Research and analyse data, and produce reports that assess the effectiveness of the work undertaken. 7 Develop the coaching and mentoring scheme by matching individuals with suitable coaches and mentors, regularly assessing the relationship. Plan and organise the initial and continuous development of coaches and mentors. 8 Work with HR Business Partners, regional and other partners, taking advantage of collaborative opportunities to reduce costs, and improve the quality of leadership and management development provision. 9 Promote and market the leadership and management development programmes throughout the force, liaising with relevant departments (for example corporate communications etc.). 10 Ensure that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes. 11 Participate in the Force PDR process and take responsibility for identifying your own professional and career development needs. Maintain continuing professional development to ensure that the Force remains aware of statutory obligations and best practice, and that any required policy/procedural changes are implemented.

The post holder will have a good understanding of strategy, performance goals and drivers; understand the environment in which the force operates and the factors that impact on performance, including customers, regulatory bodies etc. The post holder will be expected to build relationships and form alliances internally and externally, to scan for emerging trends, innovations and current best practice. The post holder will look for ways to continually improve the force s leadership and management development programmes. A knowledge and understanding of the role of leadership and management development in driving sustained business performance is essential. Represent the department at job fairs, community and positive action events to promote the force and brief individuals and groups in relation to career opportunities, which may include some evening and weekend working. The post holder will be required to pass vetting at RV level. Must be willing to be flexible with working hours to meet deadlines or work demands.

Experience of organising/coordinating events and other initiatives in relation to leadership and management development. Experience of promoting a positive and enabling culture, that puts the customer at the heart of effective and efficiently delivered business focused leadership and management development products and services. METHOD OF ASSESSMENT SKILLS AND ABILITIES Proven listening and communication skills, with experience of delivering presentations and explaining complex issues. Proven ability to coach at middle and senior management levels. Proven ability to design and deliver engaging, blended leadership development solutions. Able to challenge in a constructive way. Proven analytical and problem solving skills together with the ability to make timely and balanced decisions; positively challenging the status quo, where appropriate. Ability to inspire and persuade others; showing transparency, honesty and integrity. Proven facilitation skills up to and including senior management level. Maintains a holistic view of the situation, identifying the key

6 elements while keeping an overview of the detail. A good understanding and proven ability in coaching and mentoring. Able to use own initiative with minimum supervision, demonstrating self-management when under pressure and in demanding situations. A role model for the force values, continuous learning, showing interest and curiosity in new ideas and opportunities. An active interest in the internal and external environment and in the continuous development and improvement of self and others. Open-minded with a bias and willingness to learn and enquire. The ability to listen and influence across a complex environment, to gain the necessary commitment, consensus and support from a wide range of diverse stakeholders in pursuit of organisation benefit. The ability to use IT packages (for example Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and specialist software packages). EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION Minimum ILM 5 in a relevant related discipline, or proven relevant experience, but must be willing to successfully complete ILM5 within a defined period (a contribution to funding will be available).
