2 FUTURE STEPS Not sure what you want to do next? Future Steps may be your choice for a positive future whether you hope to get into work, an apprenticeship, or progress through college. Future Steps is a new and exciting programme offered by Edinburgh College giving you the chance to take a fun and flexible approach to learning, looking at where you are now and where you want to go. There are a variety of options within the Future Steps programme. You will get support and advice about which course is right for you, depending on your current qualifications and experience and what you hope to achieve to make sure your course is tailored to your needs. The Future Steps programmes include: teamwork, confidence building, careers information, advice and guidance, employer engagement and job matching. You may have the opportunity to undertake a work placement and gain knowledge and experience which will help you progress in to employment. You will have an allocated tutor who will support and guide you through the most appropriate route on your journey. Let Future Steps guide you on your path to success! 3 SPOTLIGHT ROUTES TO MARKET (R2M) Routes to Market is an exciting 12 week long programme aimed at bridging the gap between young people and employment. This programme will help you create your very own personalised job searching strategy. It gives an insight into the current labour market by looking at real jobs and current career opportunities. With the support of the R2M tutor, you will undertake a research project looking at career sectors, and gain a real understanding of the recruitment processes used by employers today. The programme has been very successful to date with students very quickly moving into work. Students can also get the opportunity to not only develop their confidence, self esteem, knowledge in recruitment and presentation skills but also gain a variety of SQA qualifications. I don t know how anyone manages to get a job without going on the Routes to Market course. 4 Apply now: edinburghcollege.ac.uk JUST DO IT ROOTS PRINCE S TRUST TEAM PROGRAMME Just Do It is a 12 week course (3 days a week) for year olds which gives you a set of new skills to help you decide your future steps. You can: Get started on a new career path or college course Gain skills and confidence to handle new situations Find out what employers are looking for Learn how to job search and gain confidence in interviews Find out what your interests are Gain an SQA Steps to Work qualification Meet new people and have fun! It s an informal and fun way to improve your chances of moving into a positive future and gain employment, training or further qualifications. Whilst having a great time, meeting new people and learning about new opportunities you will also have the opportunity to gain SQA qualifications. A 14 week programme exploring the environment/conservation sector for year olds. During the Roots course you will take part in practical work on current conservation areas across the city. Working alongside professionals in the field, you will also learn about health and safety, policies and best practice to progress your career in this industry. Work experience will include: Path building and maintenance Maintain and repair structures Tree planting Establish and manage habitats Do you want the chance to gain new skills, meet new people and achieve qualifications? Then our Prince s Trust Team Programme, a 12 week personal development programme, is perfect for you! The activities will challenge you and develop skills, including: Carrying out a community project, making a real difference to the place where you live Taking part in an 4 day residential trip Get two weeks work experience Taking on team challenges to help people in your community Developing CV and interview skills Gaining personal development and communications qualifications The group is informal and friendly, giving you the chance to get to know everyone and support each other to achieve your goals.

5 Apply now: edinburghcollege.ac.uk ROUTES TO MARKET (R2M) Routes to Market is a 12 week programme, aimed at young people years old who are looking to move into employment. The course involves intensive jobsearch, including work sector research and the use of social media. This course also ensures you will have multiple sector-specific CVs and cover letters, skills in writing successful application forms, interview and telephone skills. One to one support will be given until participants are successful in gaining employment. The course is run in a relaxed and supportive environment. Topics will include: Effective labour market research leading to better targeting of job applications Preparation for more challenging recruitment practices, e.g. panel interviews, group assessment days and presentations Resilience - how to keep going with high volume applications Developing job search strategies that include all current routes to market, e.g. 1. Social media 2. Recruitment agencies 3. Personal marketing to employers 4. Web based approaches
