1 Job escription Job Title: mployer: Reports to: irect Reports: Term: Curatorial Assistant (Archive & Library) Trustees of the Royal Air Force Museum ( the Museum ) Archive, Library and Research Manager None, supervision of volunteers as required Full time, permanent position Purpose of the Job To support the work of the Archives & Library team: To facilitate access to and understanding of the Archive & Library collections. To undertake research and disseminate knowledge in support of the Museum s Vision, Purpose and Strategic Plan, contributing to the Museum s Research Programme. To assist cross-departmental teams in the delivery of the Museum s public programme including exhibitions, events and learning activities. To support and facilitate the Museum s commercial activities. To assist in looking after the Archive & Library collections to ensure their preservation in accordance with the Museum s strategic goals and relevant policies and procedures. To assist in making the epartment s collections available for research to internal and external audiences. Job Functions: Access and Research Facilitate access to the collections and information relating to and contained within them according to epartment policies and procedures. Build and enhance your knowledge of RAF history including the development of knowledge of the collections held by the epartment. Contribute to the Museum s Research Programme by undertaking research and through the delivery of agreed and supported outputs including, but not limited to, 1

2 talks and blogs. isseminate knowledge through the delivery of agreed and supported outputs including but not limited to the undertaking of outreach activity, exhibition and digital content. Answer requests for information received from Museum colleagues, visiting researchers and external enquirers within agreed timeframes. Supervise and assist researchers using the Museum s reading room. Stewardship Assist in caring for the Museum s Archive & Library collections as directed and in accordance with Museum policies and procedures as well as sector best practice guidelines. Assist as directed in developing the Archive & Library collections through the acquisition and disposal of material and liaison with stakeholders. ocument and catalogue the collections to enhance access and research use in line with Museum policies and procedures. Create and manipulate high quality digital images of the collections in line with digitisation procedures and standards. Administration and epartmental Support Supervise volunteers as required. Collect data and provide reports both in writing and through presentations and discussion as required. Contribute actively to business risk management and Health and Safety management Support cross - departmental teams as required. Relationships nsure the work of the Archive & Library department is communicated effectively to all stakeholders, both internally and externally. Cultivate internal relationships that cross team boundaries and demonstrate positive collaboration with all team members delivering museum-wide programmes and objectives. evelop content to support all Museum epartments and contribute to the planning of programme subject and content. 2

Identify your personal development needs and discuss them with your line manager. Hours and Physical Conditions This is a full time permanent position, working 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. The post is based at the London site; however, work at all Museum sites (London, Cosford and Stafford) and other venues in the UK and abroad may be required.
