1 Job escription Job Title: mployer: Reports to: irect Reports: Term: Curator (Cosford) Trustees of the Royal Air Force Museum ( the Museum ) Head of Collections Assistant Curator (Cosford), supervision of volunteers as required Full time, permanent position Purpose of the Job To work as part of the Collections team: To facilitate access to and understanding of the Museum s collections with a focus on technical artefacts including aircraft, marine craft, vehicles, bombs and missiles To undertake research and disseminate knowledge in support of the Museum s Vision, Purpose and Strategic Plan, contributing to the Museum s Research Programme To work in cross-departmental teams to deliver the Museum s public programme including exhibitions, events and learning activities To support and facilitate the Museum s commercial activities To look after the Museum s collections to ensure their preservation in accordance with the Museum s strategic goals and relevant policies and procedures. To make the epartment s collections available for research to internal and external audiences. Job Functions: Access and Research Facilitate access to the collections and information relating to and contained within them according to epartment policies and procedures Build and enhance your knowledge of RAF history and specialist areas of expertise including the development of expert knowledge of the Museum s technical collections Contribute to the Museum s Research Programme by undertaking research and through the delivery of agreed and supported outputs including but not limited to academic papers, conferences, talks and blogs 1

2 isseminate knowledge through the delivery of agreed and supported outputs including but not limited to the undertaking of outreach activity, exhibition and digital content Act as the Lead Curator for new exhibitions as required Answer requests for information received from Museum colleagues, visiting researchers and external enquirers within agreed timeframes. Stewardship Professionally care for the Museum s technical collections in accordance with Museum policies and procedures as well as sector best practice guidelines In consultation with colleagues work to develop the technical collections through the acquisition and disposal of material and liaison with stakeholders Facilitate loans both from and to the Museum ocument and catalogue the collections to enhance access and research use following agreed policies and procedures Carry out audit checks of the collections as required Create and manipulate high quality digital images of the collections in line with digitisation procedures and standards Administration and epartmental Support Manage, motivate and develop the Assistant Curator Supervise volunteers as required Provide effective, timely reporting both in writing and through presentations and discussion Contribute actively to business risk management and Health and Safety management Support the development of collections-related policies and procedures Support cross - departmental teams as required. Relationships nsure the work of the Collections department is communicated effectively to all stakeholders, both internally and externally Cultivate internal relationships that cross team boundaries and demonstrate positive collaboration with all team members delivering museum-wide programmes and objectives evelop content to support all Museum epartments and contribute to the planning of programme subject and content 2

Hours and Physical Conditions This is a full time permanent position, working 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7; The post is based at the Cosford site; however, work at all Museum sites (London, Cosford and Stafford) and other venues in the UK and abroad will be required.
