2 WELCOME Whether it is helping people or businesses pay their taxes, supporting families with tax credits or working with other government departments to support the UK infrastructure, we play a key role in keeping HMRC and her customers safe and processes working effectively. Internal Audit is at the very heart of HMRC and works with every area of the department looking at assurance on governance, risk management and controls. As well as compliance type audit work, we are actively brought in early to help the business design assurance into new products and processes. We are looking to recruit enthusiastic individuals who are keen to improve public services. We need people who can bring practicality, pragmatism and customer focus to the technical elements of the review process. You need to be a strong influencer, a good communicator and be able to move easily between team player and audit leader as the situation requires. 3 ABOUT HMRC HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) make sure that money is available to fund the UK s public services. We are responsible for collecting direct and indirect tax from UK businesses and individuals, for administering National Insurance, Student Loans, Tax Credits, compliance with the minimum wage, customs duties and environmental taxes. HMRC has the equivalent of around 61,000 full time staff and annual tax revenue of over 475 billion. In addition, last year we collected record compliance revenues of nearly 24 billion and paid out 42 billion in tax credits and child benefit to families. Internal Audit in HMRC Internal Audit deals with issues that are fundamental to the reputation and success of the Department. Our role is to provide independent and objective assurance to the Chief Executive to ensure that the Department s risk management, governance and internal control processes are operating effectively and efficiently. We make a real difference to the Department by providing professional assurance and advice that adds value for money and improves operations. Although we are part of HMRC we are independent of the activities we audit. We provide Internal Audit services across HMRC and the Valuation Office Agency; and Serious Fraud Office under a Shared Services contract. Our work can touch on any area in any of these organisations.

Key Responsibilities: Managing all aspects of an audit assignment, to ensure that it is completed effectively, and that all work meets professional and quality standards; Working with other assurance providers and where necessary delivering integrated reporting. Development and delivery of effective customer relationships with senior managers via structured Customer Account Management Leading, developing and motivating team members to deliver a high quality audit service Engaging and building links with external assurance providers in relation to the Change Agenda. Work management of audit staff. Actively monitor audit deliverables to ensure a high quality service, delivered to agreed time quality and resource constraints. Deputising for senior managers where appropriate. The successful candidate: We are looking for an experienced Audit Manager with a wide range of skills. a qualified Internal Auditor or Accountant (CMIIA/CCAB/CIMA/CISA or equivalent) an excellent communicator through both written and verbal means, holding the ability to build relationships within the organisation at all levels; a proactive, independent thinker who can confidently express their views, having the ability to look across their work and understanding when to take audit findings and apply them more widely across the organisation; an effective decision maker, actively monitoring audit deliverables to ensure a
