1 INSTRUCTOR AND SENIOR INSTRUCTOR JOB DESCRIPTION Salary: 18,696-27,439 plus benefits package Starting salary is dependent n qualificatins & experience 43 Hurs per week, average Grup Instructrs at The Outward Bund Trust The Outward Bund Trust is an educatinal charity prviding jurney based adventures with utdr learning fr yung peple frm six centres acrss the UK. Instructrs are the key t ur success; using stimulating wilderness envirnments and their expert guidance and instructin, they inspire hundreds f yung peple, and develp their attributes, values and mindsets that will equip them with valuable life skills. Our utdr instructrs embdy ur values. Thrugh sensitive and supprtive leadership, they set the standards and expectatins fr each curse. They are cmmitted t their wn nging develpment, as well as that f curse participants. Instructrs are the mst significant single factr that will influence the successful delivery f high quality learning and adventure n ur prgrammes in a safe and supprtive manner. They shuld have high prfessinal standards and maintain the gd reputatin f The Outward Bund Trust always. All Instructrs reprt t a Learning and Adventure Manager. Jb Descriptin Safety & Risk Management Respnsibilities Accept and understand that as part f the rle in relatin t safety, take direct and persnal respnsibility fr the safety f participants, clients and visiting staff including checking that the safety equipment is prperly fitted and secure. Wrk within the limit f their internal authrisatin and NGB qualificatins t lead specific activities. Fllw all The Trust s safety prcedures and plicies and keep up t date with changes as they ccur. Reprt any issues relating t safety and risk management Ensure the physical, emtinal safety and security f every member f their grup, accmpanying staff, clleagues and visitrs fr the duratin f their residential. Lk after and maintain any f The Trust s equipment and resurces. Reprt any defects t an apprpriate persn. 1

2 Curse Delivery Respnsibilities Deliver t the highest standard t create maximum impact/learning, a wide variety f persnal develpment curses t a diverse range f clients, whilst ensuring a high level f custmer satisfactin is achieved. Thrughut curse delivery link all areas f Learning, Safety, and Rapprt, whilst ensuring specific curse bjectives and cntext are met, tgether with transferring f learning back t a yung persn s envirnment. Transfer f learning and linking back/frward t the curse r sessin aims is a cre part f delivery. This prcess will be present right frm the start f each curse and is central t the Outward Bund Trust s use f the experiential learning mdel. Act as technical supprt fr ther instructrs in activities such as climbing and caneing which require additinal instructinal staff. SENIOR INSTRUCTOR Senir Instructrs at The Outward Bund Trust The Senir Instructr jb rle is an extensin f the Instructrs jb descriptin and includes the duties detailed abve. Senir Instructrs are exemplars in curse delivery and have gained a wide experience in the utdr industry and/r acrss the range f Outward Bund Trust curses. They are the rle mdels within the centre that ther staff lk up t, ensuring high standards are met in every aspect f their wrk. They have a deep understanding f OBT and can cmmunicate this with peers and clients alike. As Senir Instructrs prgress within their career they expand their sphere f influence and respnsibilities. Our Senir Instructrs exemplify r Ways f Wrking Acrss the Trust and can be relied upn t drive a culture f high challenge high supprt, clearly leading by example. Safety & Risk Management Respnsibilities Have a brad understanding f all The Trust s safety prcedures and plicies and keep up t date with changes as they ccur. Reprt any issues relating t safety and risk management and are prepared t challenge pr practice if they see it. Curse Delivery Respnsibilities Supprt the Centre Management Team t bring t life the current Trust wide strategic plan As they develp Senir Instructrs will be able t translate OBT s cre safety dcuments int tactics fr staff Respnsible fr Curse Directing high quality Outward Bund curses, hwever, it is nt a requirement that all Senir Instructrs curse direct. Curse directing requires an ability t lead instructinal staff by creating visin and inspiring the directin f ur prgrammes relative t the cntext f the yung peple attending. Curse directing is very much a leadership rle, linking the learning requirements f the prgramme thrugh meaningful relatinships. Wrking in partnership with teachers, mentrs and instructrs. Staff Develpment and Leadership Senir Instructrs are eligible t apply fr the varius C0-rdinatr rles as they becme available within each centre Wrk in additinal rles t help supprt, train and pass ut instructrs. This may include supprting their line manager and deputising where required Depending n specific centre needs and individual expertise Senir Instructrs may be given specific respnsibilities that include: Staff training n internal OBT Learning curses Technical expert fr an activity, learning r client area Specific client respnsibilities with links t the sales team Develpment f learning elements and resurces. Persn Specificatin Prgress frm an Instructr t a Senir Instructr scale is dependent upn the achievement f bth frmal qualificatins and defined indicatrs f cmpetence. As instructrs mve up thrugh the scales The Trust recgnises and rewards prir qualificatins in bth teaching and facilitatin and utdr skills. Instructrs are expected t maintain r increase their qualificatins, cmpetence, levels f respnsibility and psitive influence as they prgress up the scales. This will be reviewed as part f instructr appraisal. 4

5 Essential: The required essential skills and experience are as per the Instructr rle, but at a deeper and wider level. Senir Instructrs will have cnsiderable experience f all aspects f delivering utdr educatin curses fr yung peple. Salary and Benefits Salary: 18,696-27,439 Yur starting pint n the scale is dependent n yur current qualificatins & experience (ie. yu may start part way up the scale). Prgress up the scale is dependent upn the achievement f bth frmal qualificatins and defined indicatrs f cmpetence. Benefits: Annual Leave f 24 days, plus bank hlidays.
