Job Description Job Title: Energy Services Planner Reports To: Manager of Government Affairs and Member Relations FLSA Status: Exempt Union Status: Non-union Salary: Level 5 Approved By: C h i e f E x e c u t i v e O f f i c e r Approved Date: M ay 2015 Revised Date: M ay 2017 SUMMARY The Energy Services Planner plays a vital role in the organization s success by providing innovative energy services that enhance VEC s service to its member-owners. They support VEC s vision of striving to be an energy leader and adapting to changes that shape our energy future. They are responsible for both strategic and tactical planning, development, implementation, and assessment of VEC energy service initiatives. The individual in this position works collaboratively to create, support, and execute various VEC communication strategies. They are expected to lead in a manner that demonstrates commitment to VEC s Member Focus core competency and creates a positive image for VEC. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Identifies and uses appropriate channels of communication to disseminate information about VEC s programs and services. This could be through a variety of methods such as VEC website, bill stuffers, Co-op newsletter, social media, electronic communications, press releases, as well as in-person presentations and direct communication with VEC members. Continuously explores additional avenues to communicate and interact with members and/or various stakeholders to ensure successful initiatives. Works collaboratively to create and implement VEC messaging for the purpose of keeping members, and/or various stakeholders, informed and creating a positive image for VEC. 2

3 Assists with storm communication strategies and coverage with the purpose of keeping VEC members informed during outages. Actively participates in the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of energy service projects that meet member needs and enhance member satisfaction. These projects include, but are not limited to, the Clean Air Program (CAP), Electric Vehicle (EV) incentives, Heat Pumps, Co-op Community Solar, Net Metering, and other innovative energy projects. Assists with the development and implementation of VEC s strategic plan and supports Member Service and Community Relations strategies. Coordinates with VEC staff in order to achieve mutually desirable results. Supports and performs activities necessary in the execution of VEC s Annual Meeting of the Membership including communication, election activities, and assistance with the development of meeting program agenda. Supports member outreach programs that foster member engagement and awareness of VEC s products and services, including programs targeted to youth, schools, and local energy committees. Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with VEC stakeholders. Also, develops effective partnerships with key providers of various products and services in order to support VEC s objectives and meet member needs. Establishes and maintains contacts with commercial and industrial businesses in order to promote VEC products and services. Assists with engaging and educating businesses through a proactive communication approach, including but not limited to sending monthly s, participating in various business forums, holding webinars, and providing onsite visits. Seeks out prospects and opportunities for sales of various energy services provided by VEC to commercial and industrial members. Attends trade shows and exhibits at conferences as a means to promote VEC s products and services. Receives, reviews, and acts upon applications from members for various energy transformation services. Consults with various employees when responding to requests from members to ensure feasibility of service. Assists Manager of Government Affairs and Member Relations with Key Account relationships and messaging initiatives. 3

4 Monitors regulatory changes and utility practices associated with current and future energy services that impact VEC. Studies, explores, and recommends potential energy services that can support VEC s financial and strategic requirements. Prepares energy service reports as required to comply with regulations and to inform VEC s key personnel and its Board of Directors. Supports energy service programs with data collection, analysis, recommendations, reporting, and member relations. Manages VEC s net metering program, including, but not limited to, maintaining net metering database(s), monitoring the status of net metering applications and installations, ensuring effective billing systems are in place, providing member service support for program implementation, reviewing certificates of public good, reporting on program status, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance as well as compliance with VEC policies. Provides input and assistance to senior leadership team to help establish VEC policy positions on net metering and distributed generation. Keeps abreast of changes in the industry that impact VEC s services and capabilities. Actively works with Member Service Manager to identify opportunities for collaboration and employee development in the key account, net-metering, and energy service areas. This may include the development of educational material, delivering group presentations, or providing one-on-one coaching. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains contacts within the industry and keeps abreast of current technologies and all applicable laws and regulations. Prepares and presents reports as required. Responds to VEC support . Perform other duties as assigned. Must consistently meet performance expectations. Must consistently demonstrate safe work and risk management practices. 4

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in business, communications, natural resources, public relations or related required. Must possess a minimum of five years experience in public relations, policy, planning, project management or related field. Experience in a utility setting is highly desirable. They should be able to demonstrate success in the areas of planning, implementation, and assessment of programs and projects. The individual in this position is expected to have good working knowledge of VEC member service policies and procedures, and applicable government rules and regulations. Additional working knowledge of all Cooperative policies and procedures, service rules, regulations and rates preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively represent VEC are essential. Project management experience preferred. ESSENTIAL SKILLS The individual in this position must be self-motivated and enjoy juggling multiple projects simultaneously. They should possess strong planning and organizational skills and enjoy delivering results. Must possess demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Must develop and maintain relationships and demonstrate desired interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to project a favorable image of the Cooperative. Must have the ability to produce professional written messaging. Must be able to speak publically in both large and small group settings. This individual should demonstrate a high level of creativity, initiative, and enthusiasm to work within a constantly changing industry and developing organization. 6 Work is performed in a general office setting. Hours of work are consistent with normal business hours and customer requirements with some irregular hours. Frequent work at a computer is required. Night meetings and travel will also be required. 6
