1 JOB DESCRIPTION Forest Farm Peace Garden - Project Manager Conditions of Work Salary: 19,800 ( 24,500 pro rata) The position is 4 days a week but it can be extended to 5 days per week depending on candidate s experience as FFPG has very recently secured funds that can allow the allocation of extra hrs to this post. Working days will include one or two days at the Garden (Hainault) and the rest at our offices in Ilford or working from home. Working days must include Wednesday and Friday (the days the Garden is open) but are otherwise flexible. Some evening and weekend work (normally Sundays, but some Saturdays) will be required, for example for special events and trustees meetings. You will be entitled to Time Off In Lieu. Accountable to: Responsible for: Funders: Trustee nominated by the Board (currently this is the Chairperson) Ecotherapy Worker, Freelance Funding Officer, Head Gardener, Sessional Garden Worker and volunteers in the Garden including mental health service users and Buddy volunteers Forest Farm Peace Garden today is supported through generous funding from, Big Lottery Reaching Communities, Postcode Local Trust, Peter Stebbings Memorial Charity, London Community Foundation and London Borough of Redbridge and Tesco s Bags of Help. About the Role Forest Farm Peace Garden has been benefiting our community for 13 years and is now embracing an exciting period of development establishing itself as thriving therapeutic garden in North-East London. With significant amounts of funding secured through 2017, there is a huge amount of scope to take the organisation to the next level, and we are looking for a dynamic, experienced and enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Project Manager. The role of the Project Manager is to oversee and lead the development and day to day running of Forest Farm Peace Garden. The diverse responsibilities of the role mean that your days will vary greatly. During a typical week you might attend meetings with local statutory or voluntary mental health organisations, muck in at the Garden, organise events and trainings, produce material for the website and bulletins and oversee the organisation's budget.

2 The role balances strategic oversight with a very hands-on involvement with the projects and people at the Garden. You will play an active role in strategy planning to develop and implement an overview of the Garden's development as an organisation. You will support volunteers, Trustees and the other paid workers in implementing strategic goals. The therapeutic gardening programme for mental health service users is a central activity of the organisation. You will support Ecotherapy Worker with developing our links with mental health service providers and referrers and work alongside Ecotherapy Worker and Head Gardener with the service users in the Garden helping to plan and run the sessions. FFPG runs Buddy Volunteer Scheme and you will be actively involved in providing yearly training for Buddy volunteers and support Ecotherapy Worker in delivering the training and managing Buddy Volunteer Scheme. You will also lead on staff support, appraisal and development. You will take primary responsibility for the finance and fundraising for the organisation and will have the support of the Treasurer and organisation s accountant. We employ a Freelance Funding Office who will do much of the application writing overseen by you. You will work with Trustees and staff to ensure that the organisation is stable and sustainable, fundraising as appropriate to meet organisational goals as well as ensuring the budget is balanced. You will ensure the Garden fulfils its responsibilities associated with our grant funding and other partnerships, including monitoring requirements. You will write monitoring reports and ensure that Ecotherapy Worker provides you with all relevant data on time. Based on feedback from volunteers and staff, you will plan and coordinate events, trainings and meetings, and conduct the appropriate publicity to ensure the events are a success. You will work with Head Gardener, Ecotherapy Worker and volunteers to develop the Garden in line with sustainability and permaculture principles making sure that we sustain partnerships with local environmental projects and networks. You will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and undergo safeguarding training Main tasks Have lead responsibility in ensuring that we secure adequate income through grants and other sources of funding and supervise the work of the Freelance Funding Officer. Ensure that the Charity meets its obligations as outlined by our grant agreements with our funders and write monitoring reports. Have lead responsibility for managing the budget of the organisation. Support Ecotherapy Worker in developing links with referrers and managing Buddy Volunteer Scheme. Support Head Gardener ensuring the garden tasks are undertaken and necessary supplies are purchased. Plan and deliver when necessary educational and outreach events at the Garden, such as Open Days and workshops. Have a lead responsibility for all marketing and publicity activities with the support of office volunteers. Liaise with Redbridge Council, Redbridge Concern for Mental Health and other partner

3 organisations, to ensure positive relationships, mutual benefit and successful fulfilment of agreements from both sides. Take responsibility for health and safety at the Peace Garden Always act in ways that present a positive image of the Garden and avoid any conduct that is detrimental to the image and/or good standing of FFPG, its Staff, Volunteers or Trustees in the perception of the public. Strategic Role Maintain an overview of FFPG s development, working towards our vision of being a flagship therapeutic gardening project. Play an active role in strategic planning and development with the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers. Finance and Fundraising Have lead responsibility in ensuring that we secure adequate income through grants and other sources of funding and supervise the work of the Freelance Funding Officer. Have lead responsibility for managing the budget of the organisation and liaise with accountant. Monitoring and Evaluation Ensure that the Charity collects and collates appropriate qualitative and quantitative data to enable us to produce monitoring reports Prepare regular reports for our funders, partners, and the Board of Trustees Recruitment and Training of Buddy Volunteers Support Ecotherapy Worker in planning and delivering our annual Buddy Volunteer Training Support our aspiration to empower our volunteers and service users to take an active role in running the organisation through facilitation of skill shares and garden groups. Organise and take part in users consultations Act as a resource for garden users, gardening alongside them, answering questions and helping them learn about permaculture and organic gardening Recruitment of Service Users and Partnerships with Referrers You will share responsibility with the Ecotherapy Worker for building partnerships with local statutory and voluntary mental health organisations and various community groups that can refer service users to the project. You will attend meetings with partnership organisations and deliver presentations about the project as well as take part in local events raising awareness of FFPG. Support Ecotherapy Worker in running our Ecotherapy Programme inducting and supporting service users and ensuring that relevant data is collected through case studies, user surveys ect. Staff Support and Supervision Support the work of the Ecotherapy Worker and Head Gardener running regular staff supervisions and appraisals and identifying opportunities for staff trainings. Garden Development Support Head Gardener towards the development of the Garden using permaculture and organic gardening techniques.

4 Oversee supplies purchases and scheduled projects in the garden. Support Head Gardener in developing partnerships with local environmental projects and networks. Events organisation Have a lead responsibility for planning and delivering events and workshops in the Garden which includes 2 large Open Days and series of monthly skill shares and environmental/well being workshops. Marketing and Communications Have a lead responsibility for marketing and publicity of the project including website updates, producing monthly newsletter, posters and leaflets and social media updates. 5 Project Manager Person Specification The successful candidate will demonstrate the following: Experience Experience of effective development, strategic planning, management, and delivery of projects Experience carrying out monitoring and evaluation and liaising with funders, or excellent capacity to learn these skills. Experience of working with vulnerable people in particular people living with mental health issues, refugees and asylum seekers, and/or people with learning disabilities Experience liaising with and negotiating with statutory authorities (e.g. Local Authorities and NHS) Experience in generating funds through grant-writing, social enterprise, crowdfunding or other non-traditional means Experience in the voluntary sector, such as recruiting, training, inducting and providing ongoing support to volunteers Working with diverse communities, including with people from BME communities Experience with budgets and financial operations for small organisations, or excellent capacity to learn. Education/Knowledge Understanding of the diverse experiences of people with mental health problems, and interest in mental health and welfare. An understanding of basic principles of environmental regeneration, organic growing, local food, permaculture or other relevant environmental issues. Educated to degree level Skills and Abilities Working proactively and independently - setting your own tasks, structuring your own day, and planning your own work Excellent time management skills and ability to effectively prioritise tasks Excellent communication skills, both in written and oral expression, including ability to write reports Excellent leadership skills and ability to support individual staff members and volunteers maximising their potential Strong ability to communicate with a diverse range of people, from garden users to potential funders, including good conflict resolution and relationship skills Ability to enjoy the process of developing an exciting project, and to work confidently and flexibly through challenging periods of development with a "can do" attitude Ability to maintain professional attitude and boundaries in working with project users, local Council, stakeholders, and Trustees Computer literate with an ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, databases and website management Other characteristics An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and social justice.
