1 JOB DSCRIPTION POST Research Contract Officer RFRNC RPORTS TO ROL PURPOS/SUMMARY Agreement and Contract Manager The post holder will be placed within the Research Contracts Team and will support the core team function which is to ensure contracts are successfully negotiated and executed in a timely and effective manner, reflecting the needs of LSTM, the funders and our collaborators. ROL SPCIFIC RSPONSIBILITIS KY RSPONSIBILITIS 1 Contract Support KY ACTIONS Prepare, review, negotiate and execute a range of Contracts, including but not limited to Research Collaboration Agreements, Industry Contracts, Non- Disclosure Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements and Services Agreements. To review and negotiate Contracts offered by partner and funding organisations to assess their fitness for purpose. To draft project specific Research Contracts, identifying and using appropriate templates and amending as appropriate. Analyse Agreements and Contracts to identify risks, liabilities or gaps in information and resolve these issues. nsure that Contract documentation is developed and executed in a timely and efficient manner, liaising closely with researchers and administration as appropriate, keeping them fully informed of progress. Be responsible for ensuring that Contract amendments and reviews are monitored, gathered and acted upon as appropriate. Assist in the direct negotiation of disputed contractual clauses, working with colleagues within and outside the organisation to bring agreements and contracts to mutually acceptable conclusions. Work under the guidance of the Agreements & Contracts Manager to provide advice and assistance to research and technical staff on contractual issues and key contractual obligations. Administer the Research Contracts Management system ensuring that it is updated during negotiations to acceptance of Contract and that all appropriate data is recorded for effective administration of the project. Work closely with Academic and Professional Services colleagues to advise on and interpret clauses within the wider context of a project. Page 1 of 5 RSARCH CONTRACTS OFFICR MAY 2017

2 KY RSPONSIBILITIS 2 Contract Policy, Risk and Audit KY ACTIONS Implement and monitor effective Contract Management and exception reporting of the Research Contract function. To contribute to the development and implementation of relevant corporate policy. To contribute to the review of LSTM s regulations, policies and procedures relating to Contract Research and related activities, including IP management, commercialisation and exploitation and governance. To provide comprehensive advice and guidance to staff on issues relating to Contract risk, insurance and liabilities. To register and record all Research and technical assistance projects and ensure that relevant information is provided to insurers. To receive information from the Research Business Professional Services Team on relevant changes to funding requirements To refer any post-award legal challenges associated with existing Contracts as they may arise, to the Agreements and Contracts Manager To assist in the development and implementation of key effective monitoring and audit systems. To implement audit schedules and coordinate actions resulting from audits. To ensure that all LSTM Contracts are risk assessed and that relevant monitoring and audit processes are implemented. KY RSPONSIBILITIS 3 General KY ACTIONS Contribute to regular reviews of LSTM s standard research contracts and agreements. Contribute to and support the development of robust administrative and operational systems for Contracts and Agreements. Keep current with changes and developments in relevant legislation, practices and procedures. To facilitate excellent communication with members of the Research Contracts team, providing support to team members and fostering outstanding team working to deliver shared objectives. To develop and maintain excellent working relationships within LSTM including academic staff and professional services and with external stakeholders. Represent the Research Contract Team at appropriate committees and other meetings, both internally and externally. Be resourceful, innovative and tactful in resolving issues, exercising judgement, and presenting information. fficiently prepare documentation, communications, correspondence, reports and briefing papers as required. Understanding of the research processes and funding environment for Higher ducation both in the UK and internationally. xperience of contributing to the development and maintenance of regulations, standard operating procedures, policy. xperience of IP management and commercialisation. D xperience of audit processes and systems to support effective Research Contract Services.
