2 SAC Outstanding Staff Award (OSA) Official Rules Page 2 of 5 Overview The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) Outstanding Staff Award (OSA) was established to honor Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) staff who have contributed outstanding and meritorious service to their department, the University and the community. Each year one Administrative & Professional (A&P) and one Support Personnel (SP) employee will be chosen as awardees. The Outstanding Staff Award is funded by the Gabor Agency, Inc. Additional support, when necessary, is provided by FGCU and SAC. Eligibility Any member of the FGCU community may submit a nomination for the Outstanding Staff Awards, including staff (Executive Service, Administrative & Professional (A&P), Support Personnel (SP), and OPS), Faculty (full-time or Adjunct), and students. Nominee must be a current Support Personnel (SP) or Administrative & Professional (A&P) staff member employed at FGCU for more than one consecutive year. Employees in the Executive Service classification are not eligible for this award. Employees in Visiting, Temporary, or Emergency Appointments are not eligible for this award. Eligible candidates cannot have received this award within the past five (5) years. Nominees must have been employed by the University for a minimum of one year prior to the end of the deadline for nomination. For employees who work less than 12 months, one full year would be equivalent to the academic year or a minimum of 2 semesters. Nominees must have satisfactory performance and no disciplinary action during the one year prior to the end of the deadline for nomination. Outstanding Staff Award Selection Committee members are ineligible to receive the award. Committee members will be notified of any nomination(s), however, they will not be considered. Outstanding Staff Award Selection Committee members are not permitted to submit nominations. Self-nominations are not accepted. Nominations must be approved by the nominee s supervisor prior to consideration by the Outstanding Staff Award Selection Committee. Nomination Materials Nomination must be submitted using the following survey: Nominators name, job title, department, phone extension, and address. Nominees name, job title, classification, division, department, supervisor s name. Nomination Questions The following questions are included in the nomination survey: 1. In what ways does the nominee demonstrate a strong work ethic? List detailed examples.

Describe the ways the nominee consistently assists FGCU constituencies (Faculty, Staff, Students) and our community beyond normal expectations. 3. Describe a situation in which the nominee exhibited initiative and state how the initiative had a positive impact on the University community. 4. Describe the ways in which the nominee effectively Fosters Cooperation and Collaboration with Colleagues and University Departments. 5. Please share any additional information that indicates how the nominee is an exemplary FGCU employee. Award Criteria The Outstanding Staff Award Selection Committee is made up of the voting members of the SAC Employee Recognition Committee. The voting members of the SAC Employee Recognition Committee will consist of FGCU staff members who are current SAC Representatives and are automatically ineligible for the Outstanding Staff Award. The Employee Recognition Committee will meet with the SAC Officers to discuss applications and to provide a recommendation to the Staff Advisory Council for the SAC OSA. All complete applications are reviewed by voting members of the SAC Employee Recognition Committee and scored for each of the materials on a scale from 0-4 in four (4) separate areas of focus. Applications are ranked from highest to lowest score and the highest score is selected to receive the award. The Employee Recognition Committee and SAC reserves the right to alter the award criteria in a manner they feel will be most beneficial to the OSA. Rating guidelines for each area of focus: 4 = Nomination information is exceptionally thorough and clearly states the relationship to this area of focus. 3 = Nomination information provides all required materials and states the relationship to this area of focus. 2 = Nomination information includes all required materials but does not clearly state the relationship to this area of focus. 1 = Nomination is missing required information for this area of focus. 0 = Nomination information is missing information and/or does not pertain to this area of focus. Areas of focus: 1. Exhibits a Strong Work Ethic - The focus here is to demonstrate the nominee s contribution within his/her own role. Provide no more than three examples of how the nominee has: Upheld challenging standards and exhibits integrity; Understands the central responsibility of all staff to teach and be mentors; Developed teamwork skills through collaborative opportunities

Assists FGCU Constituencies and Our Community beyond Normal Expectations - The focus here is on the nominee s relationship with students and the greater southwest Florida community. Provide no more than two concrete examples of how the nominee has assisted FGCU constituencies and the community beyond normal expectations in the following ways: Transforms students lives and the southwest Florida community; Supports collaborative learning; Keeps the advancement of knowledge and pursuit of truth as noble ideals; Focuses on student success; Nurtures community partnerships; Values public service; Engages in civic responsibility; Contributes to an informed and engaged citizenry 3. Demonstrates Initiative - The focus here is to demonstrate the nominee s ability to act independently within his/her position. Provide concrete examples of how the nominee has demonstrated at least two of the following tenets of the Guiding Principles of FGCU: Engages and/or promotes lifelong learning; Practices and promotes environmental sustainability; Embraces diversity 4. Effectively Fosters Cooperation and Collaboration with Colleagues and University Departments - The focus here is on the nominee s relationship with faculty/staff and in their department. Provide no more than three examples of the nominee s relationship with faculty/staff and in their department, using any of the following prompts: Innovative and successfully develops or utilizes new ideas; Demonstrates specific achievements with faculty and/or staff; Supports collaborative learning; Practices civility and mutual respect; Engages and/or promotes lifelong learning; Employs technology to achieve educational quality, efficiency, and/or distribution Awardees will: Be recognized during the Celebration of Excellence; Be recognized with a plaque highlighting their Outstanding Staff Award; Be recognized with a reserved parking spot for one fiscal year;

5 SAC Outstanding Staff Award (OSA) Official Rules Page 5 of 5 Have their award story shared on social media and in the SAC Newsletter; Be recognized with a one thousand dollar ($1,000.00) prize Gabor Agency, Inc. Relationship The Gabor Agency, Inc. has committed five thousand dollars ($5,000) per year for four years, starting in January 2016, to fund the Outstanding Staff Award. Each year, one-half ($2,500) will be available to award and one-half will be deposited into the Gabor Agency, Inc. fund at the FGCU Foundation. The Gabor Agency, Inc. fund generates earnings based on how well its investments perform. With each deposit (and a good investment year), the earnings will continue to increase. Therefore, over , the total of the endowment will be ten thousand dollars ($10,000 or $2,500 per year) in addition to existing account funds. In January 2019 SAC will receive its last scheduled funding from the Gabor Agency, Inc. SAC will then be responsible for contacting the Director of Advancement in the FGCU Foundation to ensure that the Gabor Agency, Inc. will continue with their current commitment or increase their commitment. Each year, the funds are deposited into two separate accounts. Two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500) will go to the endowment fund and two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500) will go to the Gabor Employee Award Fund by January. SAC is responsible for contacting the Assistant Director of Finance in the FGCU Foundation at the beginning of each fiscal year to request that the allotment from the endowment be moved to the Gabor Employee Award Fund for the purposes of supplying the award.
