IT Governance definitions IT governance (ITG) is defined as the processes that ensure the effective and efficient use of IT in enabling an organization to achieve its goals. (Gartner 2007) Information and technology (IT) governance is a subset discipline of corporate governance, focused on information and technology (IT) and its performance and risk management. The interest in IT governance is due to the ongoing need within organizations to focus value creation efforts on an organization's strategic objectives and to better manage the performance of those responsible for creating this value in the best interest of all stakeholders (Wikipedia)

IT Governance definitions ITG is leadership, organizational structures and processes to ensure that the organisation's IT sustains and extends the organisation's strategies and objectives. (ITG-Institute). "The system by which the current and future use of ICT is directed and controlled. It involves evaluating and directing the plans for the use of ICT to support the organisation and monitoring this use to achieve plans. It includes the strategy and policies for using ICT within an organisation. (Australian Standard for Corporate Governance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT))

RESEARCH Research MOTIVATION Motivation Up to now we have different concepts about what does really mean IT- Governance, most of the studies about IT-Governance are focused on showing improvements on accountability and, transparency. So, I want to measure how ITG is effective in organizations.

Research Problem Over the years there has been a problem in quantifying the outcomes from IT-Governance. There are not much researches about what are the mechanisms that make IT-Governance effective and what kind of benefits ITG could bring to organizations.

Research Objective To evaluate IT-Governance mechanism associated with IT Governance in the organization such as IT strategy, steering committee, corporate performance measurement, corporate communication systems, organizational ethics and culture and senior management involvement.

Research Questions What are the influences of the IT-Governance mechanisms included in this study on IT-Governance effectiveness? What are the impact of Ethics / culture of compliance on the perceived IT-Governance effectiveness? How the IT intensity use by industries affects the effectiveness of IT-Governance?

Expected Results Taking into account that quantitative studies about the effectiveness of IT-Governance is limited, this paper presents the evaluation of IT-Governance effectiveness in Colombian context tackling different economic kind of industries and providing empirical evidence about what are the most influential IT- Governance s mechanisms implemented by Colombian s firms.

Limitations Taking into account that quantitative studies about the effectiveness of IT-Governance is limited, this paper presents the evaluation of IT-Governance effectiveness in Colombian context tackling different economic kind of industries and providing empirical evidence about what are the most influential IT- Governance s mechanisms implemented by Colombian s firms.

Future Research In order to get more accurate measures of IT-Governance effectiveness, more mechanisms should be evaluated in order to have a more comprehensive understanding that would come from the inclusion of more relational mechanism. The next stage of this research should be the construction of the link between the IT-Governance mechanisms (processes, structures, and relational mechanisms) and how they influence the IT-Governance s domains (IT strategic alignment, IT value delivery, IT risk management, IT resource management, and IT performance management), following with the influence and impact on IT-Governance effectiveness and how that effectiveness affects innovation in Companies.
