2 Pathway: 1- Finish your Certificate III 2- Nominate your occupation as Cook Apply for the 407 training visa- as COOK a. IELTS 4.5 b. Up to 2 years visa c. Can gain work experience This can be done if you have a sponsor who has any of the below: 1. To have an occupational training programme structured and approved by DIBP (max 12 months) OR 2. can team up with a hotel or restaurant and structure a workplace-based training to enhance skills in an eligible qualification (max 12 months) OR 3. Occupational training for capacity building overseas. This is when your sponsor can has a contract with an overseas educational institute and have an exchange program (max 6 months) with that school- this must be a formal requirement of their tertiary qualification

3 EMPLOYER SPONSORED VISA OPTIONS (TSS and 186/187 visas) Caveats on occupations- The restaurant you choose to work with should: Excludes positions involved in mass production in a factory setting or positions in a limited service restaurant. A limited service restaurant includes, but is not limited to, the following: fast food or takeaway food services fast casual restaurants drinking establishments that offer only a limited food service limited service cafes including, but not limited to, coffee shops or mall cafes limited service pizza restaurants. The difference between the occupations of chefs and cooks is made based on 2 main elements: 1. the specific tasks of the nominated position and corresponding skill level; and 2. the work environment The role of chef would generally relate to a restaurant environment and would include managerial tasks such as the following: planning menus estimating cost managing and monitoring stocks supervision of preparation and presentation of food discussing food preparation issues with Managers, Dietitians and Kitchen and waiting staff preparing a number of signature dishes demonstration of cooking techniques recruiting and training staff explaining and enforcing hygiene regulations. Casual dining outlets - ARE NOT commonly associated with Chefs Fast-food outlets - ARE NOT commonly associated with Chefs Fundamentally, the primary role of a cook is one of cooking, whereas that of a chef is managing the kitchen with some limited, specialised cooking tasks.

IELTS 6.0 b. Skills assessment (which will require 3 years work experience )

5 SKILLS ASSESSMENT: there are 2 ways: THROUGH TRA: 1. PSA 360 Hours employment mentioned above (Provisional Skills assessment)- $ Job Ready Employment (JRE) -- $500 You must complete at least 1725 hours(45 weeks or about 10 months) of paid employment over a minimum of 12 months from your JRE start date in an Australian workplace that has been approved by Trades Recognition Australia. - During your employment, you will be required to keep a monthly journal describing examples of the tasks and duties you are undertaking in your workplace relevant to your occupation. 3. Step 3- someone from TRA will come to your workplace and look at your work- $ Job Ready final assessment and show the step hours of paid employment over 12 months- $150 Total fees: $2950 VETASSES: For Cook they require: Minimum Cert 3 3 years work exp in total (can be before/during/after the completion of the course you must have 12 months full time or 24 months part time work exp in the last 36 months Appropriate evidence includes taxation records, annual payment summaries, group certificates, pay slips and/or bank statements. 190 visa is possible which is the state sponsored permanent visa- Points based skilled visayou must get 60 points Example: Age: 25 to 32: 30 points English IELTS points Overseas work exp: 3 to 4 years: 5 points AU work experience: 1-2 years: 5 AU diploma: 10 points Meet AU study requirement: 92 weeks in total- 5 points No need for job offer Total: 55 points + 5 points for state sponsored (190) + 10 points for state sponsored (489)

6 Skilled Regional (489) Visa For example Victoria Requirements are: 1- Age below IELTS 6 in each band 3- Be on the VIC list (Chef is on the list) 4- Must have current Job Offer within regional Victoria (all Victoria except Melbourne metropolitan area) 5- Work experience in your nominated occupation must be post qualification. 5 years post qualification experience as Chef
