Students can adapt the career plans that they set in mtin in grade 9. This learning activity is designed t help students strengthen their career explratin and planning cmpetencies, and learn hw t create their wn persnalized Blueprint t supprt their career jurney. The key t this learning activity is fr students t recgnize that a career path is nt a straight line, but instead, a series f interrelated actins that frm ne s lifelng career pathway. The persnalized Blueprint recrd can be used as students adapt and revise their career and educatin plans t respnd t new situatins. 5 Teacher Instructins Part A: Hmewrk Assignment The hmewrk assignment will help students build their understanding and learn abut career pathways. The image belw shws tw career pathways that depict the Career Myth. The first graphic, The way it is suppsed t be, shws a linear path. Current career develpment thinking recgnizes that the straight path graduate, d sme pstsecndary learning, wrk, and then retire is utmded. Acknwledging this may reduce the stress that many yuth experience as they try t create a clear, linear pathway. Recent research indicates that the pressure f making the ne and nly right chice is impeding the psitive prgress f students int the early years f their wrk/life jurney. The secnd graphic presents a multi-line path that is mre typical f tday s career jurneys, and ne that mst yuth will likely fllw. If they learn t embrace uncertainty, build n their experiences, and chse pathways that match their desires, they will likely have a much richer career planning experience. It includes career, educatin and jb search resurces all in ne place. Yur persnalized Blueprint will keep track f yur research, and link yu t all srts f career, educatin and funding resurces. It s like a persnal accunt that will hld all yur research and valuable career planning infrmatin. Yu can save the resurces yu like, and add ntes t help yu at a later date. T fully utilize all the great resurces available, yu need t create an accunt. T discver what s available, cmplete thrugh Step 5 belw. Step One: Create an accunt G t Chse Register t create a prfile accunt and persnalize yur Blueprint. T create yur Prfile, cmplete the frm and select all the details that apply t yu. Enter yur address, and select a passwrd (at least six characters lng, with at least ne upper-case letter and ne number). Read and agree t the Blueprint Privacy Plicy, and chse Create Prfile. Step Tw: Respnd t the activatin If yu dn t have an accunt, ask yur teacher t help yu set ne up. Yu ll receive an activatin cntaining a link just select the link t activate yur accunt. 10 Step Fur: Take a quick tur f what is available Frm the hmepage, select Build yur Blueprint. Here yu can view Career Explratin Resurces, Educatin & Funding Resurces and Jb Search Resurces categries. Yu ll als see prgress bars that highlight yur prgress in building yur Blueprint. Once yu ve selected ne f the three categries, view the variety f resurces available in that grup. Since yu ve already created an accunt, the resurces will be custmized t match yur prfile settings, indicated with a Matches Prfile label. Yu can easily select the categry that interests yu and brwse thrugh the resurces. Yu ll see that Blueprint Builder draws yur attentin t certain key resurces. These are indicated with a featured flag. Once yu add them t yur Blueprint, data frm these specific resurces are pulled int yur Blueprint prfile. An example f a featured resurce is Career Cmpass. Yu can chse t view all resurces n Blueprint Builder with the A-Z resurce search. Yu can als add ntes abut the resurces t refer t later frm the View yur Blueprint page, if yu ve created an accunt. Build a cllectin f resurces in their persnalized Blueprint t supprt their career jurney nw and int the future. This will be an nging activity, as students register, navigate, and explre Blueprint Builder. Encurage students t add a resurce they either want t return t r ne that may be f help t the peple they interviewed. Make sure the students knw they can add ntes abut each resurce t refer t later. 2. Frmulate a visin fr their career jurney by netwrking with friends and family. Students cmplete this task based n the hmewrk assignment frm Part A. After students have successfully registered with Blueprint Builder, direct them back t their hmewrk assignment, and lead a discussin as fllws: a. Guide them thrugh a discussin f what they fund during their interviews. Review the reflectin questins with the students. Students will create an electrnic r handcrafted representatin f their career shpping list. 5. Make a plan t explre a jb r wrk experience they may want t learn mre abut. Actual wrk r vlunteer experience in the cmmunity is a fantastic way t see if the real life jb is a gd fit.
