However, this is a 60% time position. Desired Start Date Position End Date (if temporary) Open Posting Date Open Until Filled No To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 11:59pm (MT) on 11/28/2017 Description of Work Unit San Miguel and West Montrose Counties encompass the San Miguel River Basin (SMB), which has a population of approximately 6,500. The major towns include Telluride, Placerville, Norwood, Nucla, and Naturita. The office for this position is located in Norwood. The Basin is surrounded by mountains with elevations ranging from 5,000 ft. to 14,246 ft. Historically the economy has been based on agriculture and mining. The agriculture is primarily beef production on ranches growing grain and hay and using public land for grazing. However, an influx of new residents has prompted growth in hobby farms and markets and home gardening. There is also a dynamic recreational economy which is centered on the Telluride Ski Area. This interface between agriculture/mining and recreation has caused complex land use and environmental issues. The 4-H program currently includes forty 4-H members and six 4-H leaders. Position Summary To provide leadership, guidance and management to the 4-H Youth Development Program in the San Miguel Basin. This position will also be the lead contact for the Fair Board and attend leadership opportunities with 4-H youth. The individual in this position works as a member of the local county Extension team and as a

2 local representative of Colorado State University. This individual works under the guidance and supervision of the San Miguel Basin Counties Extension Director. Required Job Qualifications Completed bachelor s degree. Degree may have been awarded in a number of different areas, with a minimum of 2 years youth development experience. Course work and/or professional experience must provide a broad and significant understanding of youth development. Demonstrated experience working with people as individuals and in groups; ability to forge equitable and successful partnerships with other professionals and organizations. Appreciation and understanding of rural communities and an interest in working with people in a rural environment to address critical issues. Evidence of drive and initiative. Must be a self-starter. Ability to communicate through teaching, public speaking/presentation and writing as demonstrated through application materials and experience. Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs. Personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes. Must have a valid driver s license or the ability to obtain a driver s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date. Preferred Job Qualifications Ability to speak Spanish. Essential Duties Job Duty Category Program Planning, Development, Delivery, Evaluation and Reporting Duty/Responsibility Provide leadership for an actively engaged 4-H program in the San Miguel Basin. Seek out and develop local relationships, identify priority programming opportunities and develop, deliver, facilitate and evaluate appropriate educational opportunities for 4-H clubs. Provide leadership and guidance to the San Miguel Basin 4-H Council in goal identification and achievement. Participate with applicable, regional and state 4-H groups and events as well as appropriate CSUE 4-H work team(s). Effectively communicate and coordinate resources and programming with personnel/staff of Colorado State University and other organizations. Serve as a liaison with the San Miguel Basin Fair Board to represent CSUE and provide leadership to 4-H programs associated with the San Miguel Basin Fair. Provide leadership and assistance to other 4-H activities as assigned. Percentage Of Time 40% Job Duty Category Initiate and Develop Relationships and Partnerships Duty/Responsibility Support and build relationships with local schools, advisory committees, community leaders, area agencies and non-profits to develop awareness of 4-H and CSU Extension and strong program development, delivery and evaluation. 4 Duty/Responsibility Recruit and support 4-H volunteer leaders for 4-H clubs throughout the San Miguel Basin. Provide leadership opportunities and training for 4-H leaders that will increase their effectiveness in working with youth and retain their commitment as volunteer leaders over sustained periods of time.
