1 TLI31210 Certificate III in Driving Operations (Heavy General Freight) Course Details Course Name: Certificate III in Driving Operations Course Code: TLI31210 Description This qualification is designed for driving operation job roles within the Transport and Logistics Industry. Successful completion of the qualification will require competence in units of competency that relate to the job role requirements defined as aligned at AQF Level III. Successful completion of the licensing units within the qualification must align with licensing and regulatory requirements applicable to driving and state/territory regulatory requirements. Job Roles Job roles and titles vary across different sectors. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include: Line Haul Driver Local Heavy General Freight Driver Interstate Driver Pathways After successful completion, this course leads to further training in Certificate lv in Logistics or Diploma of Logistics Entry Requirements All participants must be at least 18 years old. All participants must have sound language and literacy skills; this is vital in the delivery of the assessment projects. There are no pre-requisites for this course. However, students will be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy test at the time of enrolment. This is not a pass/fail test. The test will only be used to determine if a student requires any assistance, which ill be provided. No student will be disadvantaged by being required to complete this test. 2 Qualification Rules Successful completion of the qualification will require competence in units of competency that relate to the job role requirements defined in the TL110 Training Package. Successful completion of the licensing units within the qualification must align with the licensing and regulatory requirements applicable to driving and state/territory regulatory requirements. To achieve a Certificate III in Driving Operations 18 to 20 units of competency must be completed. 6 core units At least one licensing or industry or industry unit relevant to the vehicle type applicable to a job role All units within one of the selected job role groups listed in the training package 6 elective units Where imported units are selected, care must be taken to ensure that all pre-requisites specified are complied with. Research and further readings can be completed on the Internet and all written assessment items are to be wordprocessed. NB: It is acceptable for the assessment items to be typed by an assistant, however, candidates must ensure that all work submitted is their own. Neatly hand-written assignments will also be accepted. 4 Language, Literacy and Numeracy Expectations Applicants will be expected to be able to perform basic / fundamental communication skills as per required in the industry. More specifically applicants must demonstrate the following. Writing Skills Applicants must be able to communicate relationships between ideas through selecting and using grammatical structures and notations that are appropriate to the purpose. Oral Communication Skills Applicants must be able to participate in short transactions, using basic generic structures; to establish, maintain and develop relationships; explore issues and problem solve. Numeracy and Mathematics Skills Applicants must be able to select and apply a range of mathematical strategies to solve problems in a number of contexts that are familiar and may be interrelated. They will also be able to reflect on and question the rationale and appropriateness of the purpose, process and outcomes of a mathematical activity and use symbols and diagrams to communicate mathematically. Q: How is LL&N assessed? A: Watto Training will administer a short LL&N assessment where deemed necessary based on the needs of applicants on a case-by-case basis. If Watto Training is unable to assist learners in any of these areas, referral will be made to local TAFE colleges. Depending on the type of need, learner support can be provided: In small groups By a team teacher As one-to-one tuition The assessment environment should not disadvantage the participant. For example, language, literacy and numeracy demands of assessment should not be greater than those required on the job. Customization of assessment and delivery environment should sensitively accommodate cultural diversity. Aboriginal people and other people from a non English speaking background may have second language issues. Where applicable, physical resources should include equipment modified for people with disabilities. Access must be provided to appropriate learning and/or assessment support when required. 5 Assessment Candidates will be assessed using four principal determinants: That assessment decisions are based on the assessment of skills and knowledge compared with units of competence drawn from industry Training Packages or State accredited courses. That the target industry or enterprise requirements are contextualised and integrated within the assessment. That evidence is gathered that meets the rules of evidence. That assessment is conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment. Assessment is comprised of practical demonstrations and written tasks. Units in the courses are discreet from each other however, units will be clustered and delivered and/or assessed concurrently and/or holistically at times. This is particularly evident in practical assessment. Our assessors will use an assessment booklet to record the applicants performance which used clustered assessment methods. Credit Transfer Watto Training acknowledges the requirement as a Registered Training Organisation to recognise the awards issued by other RTOs. This is limited to outcomes that are drawn from the national skills framework being units of competence awarded and accurately identified in statements of attainment and qualifications. Recognition of Prior Learning Recognition is the process by which a persons existing skills and knowledge, regardless of how they have been acquired, are assessed and credited towards the achievement of units of competency from national training package qualifications or accredited courses. The candidate will be required to provide documentation to support their application. The application will be processed and an assessment made as to the success or otherwise of the application. The candidate will be notified in writing of the result. The Candidate must sign or otherwise accept the Record of Course Credit Granted. A copy of the Record of Course Credit Granted will be kept on the Candidates file.
