1 Coaching Skills Benefits Include: Being a more effective leader and manager the skills to create really resourceful and self-directed learners the skills and confidence to coach in difficult situations Building even more effective relationships with your staff Increasing your flexibility to coach both formally and informally. You re an approachable manager who likes to help your team. It s a busy Monday morning in the office and your to do list is getting bigger by the second. As well as the three meetings you have scheduled, many of your team also want a piece of your valuable time. One member of your team has come to you voicing concerns over their workload and the amount of pressue they feel put under. Their workload is similar to others within the team and their performance up until now has always been of a good quality. What would you do? 1. reduce their workload and hope the problem will go away? 2. leave the problem with your team member - if the problem continues, put them on a performance review? 3. Move the team member into a different and more suitable role? We don t know which option you chose, but we feel that option four is better; engage in a coaching conversation with them, assisting them in developing the best state of mind, skills and resources to resolve the situation in the best way for them. Whatever your role, you have two choices, you can either take on everyone elses problems, or develop their ability to deal with these themselves. Sometimes it seems quicker to just deal with their problem yourself. Afterall, you have more experience and a bit more clout. Good news for your team because if you can resolve one of their problems you can have them all! The other option is to develop your skills in coaching. That means next time... well if you do your bit right, there wont event be a next time. If it is important for you to develop resourceful, independent, solution focussed teams, our coaching skills course will definitely help. Our coaching skills programme is a great mix of coaching theory, a bit of NLP and a lot of perfect practice makes perfect! Typically it is a two day programme - you might like to consider making it even better by including a day of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. 2 Selection & Assessment SELECTION AND ASSESSMENT: an integrated approach to recruitment and retention helping you select the right person for your organisation. In a Nutshell! Our assessment and selection processes will be tailored to your individual needs, and will be in line with CIPD and BPS Best Practice. Therefore, we will design a selection process: Using our expertise to assist you in selecting people who will stay and help your organisation grow. Which is highly objective, free from bias and fair to all your candidates Which will assess performance against defined job-related competencies; we will use your competency framework and values as the basis for the selection criteria Which uses appropriate tools and methods; each competency will be assessed at least twice, and If you require assessment centres with qualified, skilled and experienced assessors. According to a recent study from SHL Group and the Future Foundation, poor selection and people management is costing UK companies an average of 1,000 per employee per year. So when would you like to start saving money? Great on paper and great at interview doesn t always mean you get the best person for the job. Similarly, allowing someone to shine and demonstrate their true colours in just 30 minutes can be less than easy. Selecting a new member for your team to ensure he or she will fit with your organisation s culture, to maximise return and investment and help your organisation to increase its value needs to be a careful and informed process. Why? You are investing a great deal of time, money and effort in recruitment costs and in their subsequent development, and that means you deserve nothing but the best in return. How often do we hire someone that just doesn t fit in? How often do we experience a totally different person than the one we met at interview? How much does having to go through the whole process again cost your organisation? The 2008 Annual CIPD Recruitment, Retention and Turnover Survey reported that the average cost of filling a job vacancy (when taking account of the associated labour turnover costs) is 5,800. Knowing what you want, we don t just scratch the surface; we use our experience to bring out the best in people and show you the real person inside. We will tailor the process and approach to meet your individual requirements. Admiral Sir James Burnell Nugent KCB CBE, Second Sea Lord.
