Jb Descriptin Jb Grade: Technical Services, Grade 5 Jb Purpse: T prvide mechanical supprt t a variety f schl research, enterprise and teaching activities. The rle requires a highly mtivated individual t design, develp, cnstruct and repair mechanical slutins / apparatus t agreed deadlines fr use in a variety f research and enterprise prjects. Yu will als be required t advise and assist undergraduate and pstgraduate students t design and safely cnstruct their wn prject prttypes. With significant practical wrkshp experience using a variety f cnventinal and CNC techniques and diverse materials, yu will be able t wrk effectively bth independently and as part f a team f technical staff. In additin, yu will supervise and maintain schl research equipment and be respnsible fr the mechanics labratry and assciated resurces. Jb Duties: T:- prvide cmpetent mechanical supprt t research, enterprise and teaching activities acrss different Design Schl lcatins n the University campus. design, develp, cnstruct and repair mechanical slutins / apparatus fr use in experiments and student prjects based n cnceptual requirements frm end-users. advise and assist undergraduate and pstgraduate students t design and safely cnstruct their wn prject prttypes. be capable f safely and efficiently using techniques t manufacture and assemble apparatus and prject slutins, using:- fabricatin / welding, fitting and engineering machine shp tls. CAD / CAM and CNC machining milling machines, ruters and lathes. wdwrking equipment and hand finishing skills. equipment t frm, shape and jin multi-materials such as plastics. 1

2 prvide skilled technical supprt and advice t academic, technical and ther staff within the Schl and frm ther Departments / Schls with regard t research, enterprise and teaching pririties. assist in the registering, mnitring, laning and strage f the Schl s prtable research equipment. be respnsible fr the Schl s Mechanics labratry and the laning, strage and security f assciated equipment. ensure that safe wrking envirnments and prcedures are maintained at all times thrugh cmpliance with Health and Safety at Wrk legislatin and the University s Operatinal Prcedures. wrk within task-based teams f staff (e.g. n exhibitin assembly and dismantling) engage in training prgrams within the University which are cnsistent with the needs and aspiratins and bth the Schl and the psitin. undertake such ther duties as may be reasnably requested and that are cmmensurate with the nature and grade f the pst. Ability t wrk flexibly t use different manufacturing prcesses and techniques. Ability t wrk as part f a team with excellent interpersnal skills. Cmpetence in IT skills and Internet usage. Knwledge and understanding f current Health, Safety and Envirnmental legislatin. Relevant C&G r BTEC Ordinary Natinal Certificate (ONC). A willingness t undertake further training as apprpriate and t adpt new prcedures as and when required. Levels f physical fitness t be able manually handle / lift and transprt prjects. Practical experience f frming, shaping and jining multimaterials such as plastics. Previus respnsibility fr wrkshp r labratry equipment. (3D) CAD / CAM and related CNC machining expertise. Previus experience f delivering training, instructing apprentices r students. Experience in the use f a range f industrial wdwrking machinery. Rapid prttyping/3d printing experience Skills and abilities Wd machine shp safety certificate. Mechanical CAD knwledge and skills. Understanding f electrical / electrnic principles. Instructinal techniques certificate. A full driving license. Fire Marshal experience. Knwledge f purchasing prcedures. First Aid at Wrk Certificate. Qualificatins HNC in relevant mechanical discipline. Cnditins f Service The psitin is full time and pen ended. Salary will be n Technical Services Grade 5, 23,619 t 28,143 pr rata per annum, at a starting salary t be cnfirmed n ffer f appintment.
