This will be done by providing life-changing services for the independence of people living with sight loss and their friends and family. We put people with sight loss at the heart of everything we do and firmly place ourselves at the forefront of inclusivity. With the support of the Marketing Communications Manager, to develop and implement integrated communications campaigns which promote, protect and raise Guide Dogs profile amongst key target audiences. In addition, working with Guide Dogs brand purpose, contribute to brand awareness and growth. This is a wide-ranging, creative role where you will be required to work closely alongside key stakeholders including a diverse Communications team which has a broad remit consisting of internal communications; national PR and media relations, ambassador and celebrity management, and stakeholder engagement. Key Accountabilities of the Role Key Accountability 1. With the support of the Marketing Communications Manager, to be the communications lead for specific projects or campaigns which meet strategic objectives 6

7 2. Developing and implementing multi channel, integrated communications plans with measurable KPIs 3. To proactively and creatively tell our story, generating ideas that work across all platforms which will inspire our audiences to engage with our Brand 4. To write and edit news releases, features, thought leadership articles and other copy for both external media and internal publications 5. To build strong and on-going relationships with key journalists contacts and with partner organisations, developing use of their channels to raise awareness with your key audiences in support of our strategy 6. Work with other departments and members of staff in Guide Dogs to understand their communications needs and provide creative solutions which meet strategic objectives 7. Act as a key advisor on handling difficult issues with the media and keep up-to-date with relevant issues in the media, gaining coverage for Guide Dogs where possible. 8. To take part in an out of hours duty rota and respond appropriately in the event of a crisis. 9. Apply knowledge of the functional impact of sight loss and any other disabilities or health conditions in order to ensure dogs are able to perform their guiding role within the required variety of circumstances. Produce accurate reports to enable quality control and use professional judgement to make recommendations on each dog s progression. 2 Matching of guide dog and owner partnerships - Ensure that dogs are suitably matched to service users according to agreed criteria. Use detailed knowledge of each dog s qualities and recognise how these are likely to compliment the needs and lifestyle of service users. Analyse and assess any risks attached to the guide dog and whether these risks can be safely and appropriately balanced by the skills or capability of the intended service user. 3 Guide dog partnership instruction Plan, supervise or directly deliver training courses for service users. Apply theoretical and practical knowledge of teaching and learning of adults and at times people with additional needs, including the instruction of children and young people. Use skills and experience to develop both service user and the matched dog to jointly create an effective partnership that enables safe, independent travel and a good quality of life for the guide dog.
