1 Stage 5 Y9/10 Elective Commerce Assessment Task 2 Employment Issues Name: Date Given: Date Due: Task Weighting 30% The key to getting a job and finding a career path starts with applying for a job. In this assessment task, you will be following the process involved in applying for a job. Syllabus outcomes: 5.1 Applies consumer, financial, business, legal and employment concepts and terminology in a variety of contexts 5.2 Analyses the rights and responsibilities of individuals in a range of consumer, financial, business, legal and employment contexts 5.8 Explains commercial and legal information using a variety of forms 5.9 Works independently and collaboratively to meet individual and collective goals within specified timelines Part One Select ONE of the job advertisements attached. Write a letter of application for one of these positions otherwise known as a cover letter. You must submit the job advertisement with your letter of application. Youthcentral.vic.gov.au has some great advice on writing cover letters. Part Two Prepare a resume to submit with your application. Use the handout contained in this assessment task as a guideline, Key Components of a Resume and use Youthcentral.vic.gov.au as a guide. Part Three Anticipate THREE questions you may be asked by a potential employer at an interview for the job you are interviewing for. Write them out. For each question that may be asked, provide a written answer to each question. Consider TWO questions you would like to ask your potential employer at the interview. Write them out. Justify in writing why it would be useful to ask those questions.

PART ONE mention the job (or kind of job) you're applying for (or looking for) match your skills and experiences with the skills and experiences required by the job encourage the reader to read your resume finish with a call to action (for example, requesting an interview or asking to meet). What you should include in your cover letter: Your name and contact details Their name and contact details The name of the job you're going for A list of your relevant skills A summary of why you're right for the job Speak their language Ask them to read your resume & contact you What you shouldn't include in your cover letter Typos or mistakes Including your whole resume Using "I" too much Don't mention your other job applications Refer to the web address below for more detail on how to write a cover letter. This has many examples for you to use to help.

4 Au Pair/ nanny needed for 2 boys ASAP, Country NSW $300pw + full board Mudgee Hello Au Pairs, We are looking for our next beautiful au pair to join our family on our small farm near Mudgee in country NSW (approx 4 hrs from Sydney). Our boys are aged 3 and 6 and love playing games and making adventures outdoors. Our farm has a mix of sheep, cattle and alpacas and also chickens, geese and dogs. We have a large 4 bedroom house with 2 living areas and a pool. Own spacious room provided and full board along with $300 people pocket money. Must have full, clean drivers licence (confident driver, car provided for local driving) and be non-smoker. Prefer someone 22yrs male or female. Must also be clean and tidy as some light house work is involved (cleaning floors, kitchen, helping with laundry). Prefer someone happy to experience life on a farm as well and not afraid to get hands dirty (driving tractor, helping with animals, gardening). Days off negotiated around my roster and family activities. Position not able to count towards 2nd yr visa sign off, sorry. Mudgee is lovely little town set amongst beautiful vineyards and lots of little cafes. There are lots of other au pairs in the area to meet and arrange outings with. There may also be the opportunity to do some extra babysitting on your days off in the local area. Analyses the rights and responsibilities of individuals in employment contexts by: Determining 2 relevant questions they could ask a potential employer and clearly justifying the reasons for asking them. Student is able to: Thoroughly explain business and employment concepts and terminology in a variety of forms.
