5 CHAIRMAN S STATEMENT As an Awarding and Assessment Organisation that works in the UK and internationay, heping peope across a waks of ife, we have seen continued success again this year. Our commitment to earners has supported peope to achieve over 88,016 quaifications and 308,393 units in the UK. This has heped the earners to demonstrate to both themseves and empoyers that they have the right knowedge, skis and competencies to do the job, whether it s an apprenticeship, paid empoyment or vounteering. NOCN aunched a wide range of quaifications and apprenticeships during 2015 and 2016, in business administration, construction, financia services, heath and socia care, retai, security and faciities management, and warehousing and ogistics. We aso aunched Functiona Skis on-ine to compement our on-ine examination offer in construction, food safety and security. The year saw a departure from just providing quaification testing on-ine to providing a tota package of training materias, assessment and digita certification. The onine offer from NOCN is currenty aimed at empoyers who want to up-ski their workforce through management deveopment, productivity improvement and heath and safety. We extended our approva on the Register of Apprenticeship Assessment Organisations to incude reformed apprenticeship standards in financia services and the pubic sector. By the end of the year NOCN was one of the few AAOs eading on the new reformed apprenticeship agenda in Engand. In Europe, some 8525 peope gained NOCN ESOL internationa quaifications in the year, deivered through our vaued partnerships with Goba and PALSO. Our work in Greece, where we offer ESOL internationa quaifications as we as programmes for the unempoyed, continued to expand. We aunched our new fu on-ine Leve 4 Management of Productivity quaification in India, through our partnership arrangement with the A India Management Association (AIMA). We have aso accredited a number of AIMA s courses for skis deveopment. Our work has continued in India with the Teecoms Sector Skis Counci and we have started to support the Construction Ski Deveopment Counci of India on transnationa quaifications. Our new Leve 5 management quaification has been aunched in the Guf and Midde-East. In Bangadesh we continued our work with the UNDP to give farmers the skis they need to operate more efficienty and effectivey. We continue to work with the TUC, the Cathoic Dioceses, ACAS, Nationa Air Traffic Contro Services (NATS) and York Teaching Hospita. Our work with strategic partners such as the Learning & Work Institute and WEA on skis poicy and promotion of earning for a has deveoped during the year. As a Leader in Diversity, NOCN remains committed to heping peope from across our communities gain the knowedge, skis and competencies they need for sustainabe empoyment and to be abe to reach their fu potentia. We were deighted to receive externa recognition of this commitment through the award for NCFD as Awarding Body of the Year. I became chair in June 2016 as a resut of Dr David Knight retiring from the Board. I take this opportunity to thank him for the support in taking on my new roe and for the exceent egacy he has eft; with NOCN now expanding and diversifying both into new areas and aso overseas. 8 OUR CHARITABLE OBJECTIVES NOCN is a registered charity with the foowing objectives: The advancement of education of the pubic in one or more of the foowing ways: By promoting and widening participation in education and training incuding for those peope who have previousy been excuded from educationa opportunities. By improving the quaity and fexibiity of educationa provision for the pubic benefit, incuding for those peope who have previousy been excuded from educationa opportunities; and By improving access for earning opportunities and faciitating progression to further earning, empoyment and higher education particuary through the award of credit and credit-based quaifications. NOCN strives every day to deiver services in ine with these aims. It aso supports projects and provides services which specificay meet these objectives, incuding: The AoC Student Photographic Competition Pathways to Aduthood Study Programme UNDP Bangadesh The Festiva of Learning Equaity Diversity and Incusion (EDI) AoC Student Photographic Competition 2015 NOCN is an estabished supporter of the annua AoC Student Photographic Competition, because creativity in earning can provide meaningfu ifeong careers. 9 Pathways to Aduthood Disabed young peope want the same things as everyone ese - paid work, a pace to ca their own, good heath, friends and reationships, and to be part of the society they ive in. Government Pathway Concusion Pathways to Aduthood is an innovative study programme for young peope with earning difficuties or disabiities (LDD). It provides a framework for training providers to buid taiored courses, enabing earners to deveop skis in preparation for aduthood. There are four strands to the programme: Empoyment, Good Heath, Independent Living and Community Incusion. UNDP work in Bangadesh NOCN has continued to work with IoP on a UN and Food and Agricuture Organisation (FAO) sponsored project to create safe food suppy chains in Bangadesh. IoP deveoped the programme with NOCN awarding the quaification. The programme is based on certifying both Master and Lead Trainers who wi then encourage farmers to adopt safe food practices to reduce inappropriate chemica usage, exposure of products to sources of microbia contamination and adopting a simpe code of practice. It was successfuy tested in four piot projects during 2015 and video feedback coected from earners, staff and parents, who a gave it a positive recommendation. This wi now enhance and improve the programme ready for fu ro-out peope were trained as Master Trainers and the resuts incuded improved productivity, reduced mediation, decreased wastage, improved quaity and improved saes and profitabiity. 68

11 Festiva of Learning Pariamentary Reception The ceebrations cuminated in the Festiva of Learning Pariamentary Reception in Westminster, sponsored by Dan Jarvis MP, with a keynote speech supporting adut earning from the Right Honourabe Robert Hafon MP, Minister of State for Education. By supporting the FOL campaign, NOCN was abe to highight the wider benefits of adut education, reinforce the importance of the sector with senior Government representatives, meet its charitabe objectives and raise its corporate profie as a progressive educationa organisation. 12 OUR COMMITMENT TO EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND CLUSION Equaity, Diversity and Incusion (EDI) is at the core of our charitabe vaues and mission and our teams work hard to make sure a earners, whatever their abiity, have the chance to achieve quaifications which hep them on to further study, an apprenticeship, empoyment or simpy to improve their ife skis for greater webeing. NOCN is one of ony a few companies in the UK to achieve Stage 3 in Leaders in Diversity by the Nationa Centre for Diversity and the ony Awarding and Assessment Organisation to hod this coveted accreditation in NOCN was deighted to receive the Nationa Centre for Diversity s award as the Awarding Body of the Year in We provide quaifications, apprenticeships and services for earners and we work with 1284 coeges and training providers nationwide. We coect data to monitor our EDI performance and this shows us that earners from a parts of society access our products, but we can aways do more and so we continue to strive to create opportunities for a.

14 OUR HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR Industry sector expansion We continued to expand our presence in business administration, construction, financia services, heath and socia care, management, retai, security, faciities management and transport. New quaifications We have deveoped a wide range of quaifications in the ast year, incuding: Dipoma in Civi Engineering Dipoma in Cinica Heathcare Support Dipoma in Productivity Improvement Practice Dipoma in Property Maintenance Operations Dipoma in Performing Engineering Operations Dipoma in Performing Manufacturing Operations Reformed apprenticeship standards The reformed empoyer-ed apprenticeship, known as traibazers, are the future and NOCN and its Board are committed to supporting this important Government poicy and heping to make it work. We continue to work with over 50 empoyer groups working on reformed apprenticeship standards and assessment pans. Within the year we successfuy extended our approva as an Apprenticeship Assessment Organisation (AAO) to new standards in financia services and the pubic sector. NOCN is now one of the three eading AAOs in this new market. New products As we as quaifications, we have aunched a range of on-ine products incuding Functiona Skis examinations and tota on-ine packages of training content, assessment and certification for our Leve 4 Management of Productivity and Safe Worker quaifications. These are aimed at supporting empoyers to up-ski their management and workforce. Internationa In India we aunched, with the A India Management Association (AIMA), our Leve 4 management certificate which is a bend of cassroom earning with on-ine content, assessment and certification. Our work in Greece and Cyprus, on ESOL Internationa, through our partner Goba continued to expand with some 8,525 earners sitting our examinations. We aso aunched our Leve 5 management quaification on Productivity Improvement Practice in the Guf across severa industry sectors incuding banking and financia services, construction, ogistics, manufacturing, Oi and Gas, and the pubic sector.

17 WORKG WITH PARTNERS We work in partnership with companies and organisations to provide our services. This incudes empoyers, training providers and industry or sector-ead organisations. We re deighted to be continuing to work with our major regiona deivery partners One Awards, Agored Cymru and OCN Northern Ireand to provide a service to a earners in Engand, Scotand, Waes and Northern Ireand. One Awards and NOCN have a ong-standing partnership and a reationship which has deveoped through a mutua appreciation of the combined and compementary skis and knowedge hed in both organisations. We beieve that NOCN are at the eading edge of educationa deveopments, responsive to the ever changing needs of empoyers, training providers and the further education sector and up-to-date with the Government s educationa priorities. This for us makes NOCN the idea partner. We share a set of vaues and a strong focus on how adut education can transform ives. Working together, we are abe to achieve much more for young peope and aduts who deserve fexibe and respected quaifications to hep them get on in ife and at work. 19 STITUTE OF PRODUCTIVITY NOCN is ACAS s accrediting body for the Certificate in Interna Workpace Mediation (CIWM) course. Brian Thornton, Head of Advisory Services Poicy at ACAS said: We re deighted to have NOCN on board with us for our CIWM course, which is a highy vaued service amongst our customers. Successfu mediation in the workpace is crucia and so it is reay important that the accredited recognition for our course wi continue to come from a eading Awarding Organisation. We have worked with IoP to deveop a suite of Leve 4 management quaifications which aim at improving productivity in businesses. This was aunched in 2015 and due to its success we are now deveoping a compete onine soution for the Certificate course which wi aow trainee managers to both seamessy earn onine and aso sit the examinations in the same system. The onine course and examinations wi be aunched in Working in partnership with NOCN has been a rewarding experience. They keep us on our toes by (righty) chaenging us to justify any statements we make, but whenever we strugge or stumbe they provide the encouragement, and professiona support we need. John Heap, Managing Director, Institute of Productivity There were 27,738 TUC earner registrations in this period for a range of NOCN quaifications, incuding an Award for Trade Union Representatives, a Certificate in Empoyment Law and a Dipoma in Occupationa Heath and Safety. NOCN has worked with the TUC for many years and continues to support its efforts to improve eves of educationa attainment for its members and representatives. NOCN s approach to accreditation and deveopment is professiona, timey and resourcefu, with we-deveoped systems and processes in pace. They have supported us, given advice and ensured that our intentions have transated into quaifications that are meaningfu for our earners. 21 CASE STUDY Norseand Ltd Improving productivity with NOCN Norseand Ltd is an innovative speciaist cheese producer in Somerset. Its products incude three of the UK s number one category brands: Jarsberg, Appewood and Mexicana. It has been working with Devon training provider ATN to support one of its team to undertake the NOCN Leve 4 Management of Productivity Dipoma. Course Units were deivered through moode.nocn.org.uk and suppemented with physica and digita resources. Support has been given throughout, with discussions, feedback and guidance. Units incuded: Strategic Panning Continuous Improvement 5S to Improve Productivity Organisationa Deveopment for Improved Productivity Workforce Panning to Improve Productivity Performance Measurement & Management Using Benchmarking to Improve Performance Risk and Issue Management Panning for Operationa Change The NOCN Management of Productivity Suite has enabed us to up-ski the future needs of our Management Team and it has aready reaped rewards for the business; the project has enabed sma changes that wi have a big impact on productivity. 22 CASE STUDY Canary Wharf Learning Centre Fiing London s construction skis gap Canary Wharf Learning Centre (CWLC) is working in partnership with Lambeth Coege and UCATT (Union of Construction Aied Trades and Technicians) to deiver NOCN quaifications to new and existing construction workers in London. It is seen as a key driver in meeting the needs of the industry and addressing the skis gap. CWLC has deivered over 300 NVQ Leve 2 construction quaifications with NOCN through the partnership with Lambeth Coege. As we as the Leve 2 students, new entrants to the construction industry are enroed on a Boot Camp based at the coege. We have deivered 90 Leve 1 Trainee Formwork Carpenters within the Boot Camp at Lambeth Coege in the ast 12 months with 95% competing Leve 1, 85% going into fu time empoyment with 30% continuing on to NVQ Leve 2. NOCN have been instrumenta in our partnership and we ook forward to deivering even more construction quaifications next year. The team are great to work with and make the process troube-free. CWLC CWLC is in a great position, through its partnership with Canary Wharf Contractors, UCATT and NOCN, to meet the needs of London s construction workforce.

23 CASE STUDY AIMA Onine Certificate in Management Skis Together with our partner, the A India Management Association (AIMA), NOCN aunched an on-ine transnationa management quaification for new managers: The NOCN Leve 4 Certificate in The Management of Productivity Dipoma. The certificate is designed to give managers the skis they need to improve business productivity and profitabiity. The subjects incude: Performance Measurement and Management Probem Soving for Business Risk and Issue Management Project Management The on-ine product provides training materias, earning exercises, assessments and certification. Our first cohort of trainee managers has aready successfuy gone through the courses and received both their paper transnationa quaification certificate and the digita version. On the partnership between AIMA and NOCN, Rekha Sethi the Director Genera of AIMA said: Management and entrepreneurship training is rare in India's skis market and NOCN wi coaborate with AIMA in assessing and certifying these skis. NOCN Managing Director, Graham Hasting-Evans added: We are deighted to support AIMA in its ambitions to raise the professiona standards of Indian managers. This wi improve productivity and quaity, strengthening the Indian economy. This partnership between AIMA and NOCN is reay exciting and we are proud to be part of the Indian skis revoution. 22

25 Reformed apprenticeships: From Frameworks to Standards NOCN has been at the forefront of apprenticeship reform throughout the Government s deveopment of the programme. It has worked in partnership with empoyer Traibazer groups to create new apprenticeship standards that meet empoyer s needs and has heped to deveop neary 50 new standards for reformed apprenticeships. Apprenticeship Assessment Organisation Reformed apprenticeships incude an End-Point Assessment (EPA), which requires a new type of organisation. Apprenticeship Assessment Organisations (AAO) are Government-approved and NOCN is one of the eading AAOs, working in the foowing sectors: Pubic Services Faciities Management Financia Services Engineering Socia Care Retai Science Technoogy NOCN is the best awarding body I have worked with. 29 OUR WORK WITH TSSC, DIA NOCN is working with the Teecoms Sector Skis Counci (TSSC) of India on assessing candidates who wi work in the teecoms sector on a wide variety of job roes. The NOCN IT patform aows severa forms of testing to be carried out and coated to formuate an end-point assessment resut. It uses a rubric to cacuate in a consistent manner whether a candidate can demonstrate the correct eve of knowedge and competencies to pass for the specific job roe. NOCN and the Teecom Sector Ski Counci of India have signed a andmark dea to bring robust and consistent assessment of vocationa quaifications, using modern and up to date e-assessment technoogy. 31 Midde-East/Guf In the Midde-East and Guf we aunched our Leve 5 Productivity Improvement Practice suite of quaifications with our partner Jafcon, in a wide range of sectors incuding aviation, banking and financia services, construction, education, ogistics, manufacturing, Oi and Gas, and the pubic sector. This suite of quaifications incudes an award, certificate and dipoma and is designed for managers, practitioners, supervisors, aspiring future managers and students in their fina year. The quaifications enabe students to progress, gain knowedge and improve productivity at the team, department and strategic eves; driving business success and expansion. There is significant potentia return on investment from cost savings and productivity gains through this training; for exampe, Bahrain Petroeum Company saved $4 Miion through this programme.
