1 Job Title Reports to Department/Team Responsible for Location JOB PROFILE Senior Philanthropy Manager Director of Philanthropy Philanthropy No line management responsibility initially but it is expected for line management to become part of this role in due course Office or Home-based Introduction Compassion UK exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty. Context The Philanthropy Team aim to build long lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with organisations, businesses and individuals who have the propensity and capacity to contribute significantly to our aim of releasing children from poverty in Jesus name. The team is focussed on the generation of non-sponsorship income while also playing its part in adding to the numbers of children sponsored through Compassion UK. Job Purpose Work alongside other frontline acquisition channels to manage the development and delivery of a fundraising programme that increases engagement between high net worth individual supporters, corporate partners and statutory agencies and Compassion UK. Key Outcomes 1. Promote and maintain Compassion UK s Christian Ethos and Values; 2. Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective high net worth individual supporters; 3. Instigate and oversee the initiation of a statutory funding programme and to ensure good stewardship is provided to the small number of supporting trusts and foundations; 4. Deliver regular, high quality prospect cultivation events and accompany major supporters on trips to visit Compassion projects; 5. Work in partnership with the Philanthropy Officer to deliver data-driven growth in mid-level funding opportunities. Page 1 of 7

2 Core Responsibilities 1. Promote and Maintain Compassion UK s Christian Ethos and Values Actively live and work in accordance with the Christian ethos and values of the organisation at all times, actively demonstrating the practical outworking of these values and taking personal responsibility for how your individual attitude and actions impact on the Christ centred working of Compassion. Actively participate in the spiritual life of the organisation in the following ways: Model Godly character in all aspects of conduct. Pursue and maintain your Christian faith through ongoing personal spiritual development and a personal relationship with God. Contribute in Christian praise, worship, prayer and biblical reflection during collective prayer times, joining with colleagues in praying for the work of the organisation. Provide support and spiritual encouragement to colleagues, in line with biblical principles. Assist in ensuring that services provided actively promote, maintain and articulate the Christian ethos and values as laid out in our Covenant Charter, Statement of Faith, Core Values and Ethos Statement. Assist in promoting inclusivity within the organisation, so the organisation continues to champion diversity whilst maintaining a clear Christian distinctive. 2. Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective high net worth individual supporters Generate sustainable income through the identification and cultivation of high net worth individuals who have an affiliation or personal interest in the ministry of Compassion UK; in so doing to match prospective donors to relevant projects and strategically plan the level and most effective form of approach to engage appropriate prospects and donors on a one-to-one tailored basis and develop strong personal relationships. Work closely with the Director of Philanthropy to maintain strong relationships with Compassion UK s core group of major donors. This will include maintaining regular correspondence, arranging and attending meetings, delivering formal presentations, writing funding applications and providing reports. Work together with the Philanthropy Coordinator to identify and research new major donor prospects. This will include requesting research briefings from the Philanthropy Coordinator and subsequently reaching out to prospective supporters. Cooperate with Compassion UK s lead on GDPR and Fundraising Regulator compliance to ensure that all aspects of our work are both compliant with the law and industry best practice. Manage all aspects of major donor income you generate on the fundraising database including prospecting, income processing and the production of regular reports for the Director of Philanthropy. Manage relationships with corporate donors as and when required by the Director of Philanthropy. This will include writing applications, making presentations, attending meetings and maintaining ongoing communication. Attend regular meetings required by the role, any training either external or internal as requested by the Director of Philanthropy and to attend regular supervision sessions. Work with the Director of Philanthropy to further develop Compassion UK s major donor and corporate partnership strategies. Work to activity and income targets tracked through Compassion UK s CRM Page 2 of 7

3 Work to achieve agreed cross channel targets, collaborating with colleagues across Compassion UK in order to achieve wider organisational outcomes. Undertake other duties as directed by the Director of Philanthropy. 3. Instigate and oversee a statutory funding programme and to ensure good stewardship is provided to the small number of supporting trusts and foundations Work with colleagues in Compassion UK and across Compassion International, to ensure the timely submission of a DFID proposal with a view to this becoming part of Compassion UK s non-sponsorship income. Work closely with the Director of Philanthropy to ensure that Compassion UK s Public Affairs Strategy and Government Funding strategy are well aligned to maximise both income and influence. Ensure senior colleagues in Compassion UK and Compassion International agree the projected budgets of any government funding bids and give due consideration to administration costs and human resource requirements for the delivery of these programmes and any associated reporting commitments. Work with the Philanthropy Assistant to ensure that professional and timely stewardship is given to charitable trusts and foundations supporting Compassion UK. 4. Deliver regular, high quality prospect cultivation and fundraising events and accompany major donors on trips to visit Compassion projects Diligently plan and deliver a minimum of 2 prospect cultivation and fundraising events per year. Work with the Philanthropy Coordinator, provide concise, fully researched briefs for the CEO and Director of Philanthropy in advance of prospect cultivation and fundraising events with major donors, corporate partners and other key influencers. Endeavour to secure funding or gifts in kind to pay for these events where possible. Work with the Philanthropy Coordinator to ensure that the most suitable individuals and organisations are invited to attend cultivation and fundraising events. Using Compassion UK s CRM, conduct analysis of the effectiveness of cultivation and fundraising events and provide reports to the Director of Philanthropy and CEO as required. Encourage high capacity prospects to visit Compassion projects and to accompany them on well planned trips, ensuring they are able to see and better understand the extent of the work of the ministry and to engage with its staff, volunteers and beneficiaries in the field 5. Working in partnership with Philanthropy team colleagues, deliver data-driven growth in mid-level funding opportunities Work with the Philanthropy Coordinator and Philanthropy Officer to pair funding opportunities, especially Child Survival and interventions, with appropriate cohorts of prospective mid-level donors. Work with the Philanthropy Assistant to offer high quality digital and printed funding opportunities to Compassion UK sponsors for whom the relevant consents have been received and recorded (in Compliance with DPA and GDPR legislation). Coordinate with the Philanthropy Officer to ensure that all non-cdsp donors receive the appropriate level of service and reporting, taking propensity and future capacity into consideration where known. Liaise with colleagues in Marketing to ensure appeals are planned and appropriately timed throughout the year. Page 3 of 7

7 Information for Applicants Job Title Salary Range Hours of Work Travel Senior Philanthropy Manager 38,760 pa (Within the Grade 38,760-46,250 pa) 09h00 17h00 Monday to Friday Some short term international and UK travel will be required Salary & Benefits: Compassion UK operates a salary grading system (linked to performance. Benefits include full health (AXA PPP) and dental insurance (Denplan) for all staff on satisfactory completion of their probationary period. Annual Leave Full Year: All employees will be entitled to 5 normal working weeks annual leave a *year (pro rata), plus normal bank holidays (pro rata). It will be compulsory for up to 5 (or relevant pro rata) days of that entitlement to be held in reserve and taken during the Christmas Period when Compassion UK close their offices, this is usually around 21 December to 1 January each year. (*Year = 1 January to 31 December) Pensions: There is a non contributory pension scheme for staff to join. Learning and Development: Compassion UK seeks to enable each individual to develop to their full potential through a comprehensive performance review process and ongoing opportunities to develop within their role and through external and internal training as applicable. All new staff will be given a comprehensive induction. New Staff Service: Six month probationary period with three month review. Internal Appointments: Performance review at three and six months. Statement of Faith: Compassion is a Christian organisation. The post holder will be part of the Marketing & Engagement Department which supports the delivery of the main Christian message of Compassion. This includes the transference of the Christian ethos internally and externally. One area of the interview will therefore explore your active personal commitment to the Christian Faith and ability to promote the Christian ethos of Compassion and enable others to experience, explore and express the faith based motivation of its work.
