2 POSITION DESCRIPTION MENTOR & LIAISON OFFICER Position Number 1446 Position Status Full Time Position Supervisor Indigenous Affairs Advisor Department People, Community & Sustainability Job Purpose Statement The Mentor & Liaison Officer Indigenous Affairs position is a critical role committed to identifying and fostering youth and supporting them to achieve their full potential through mentoring and traineeships. The role will work in conjunction with key stakeholders to provide enduring opportunities that build confidence, skill and that contribute to the connectivity of the community in which we operate. Job Accountabilities Continually liaise with key stakeholders including community, trainees, families, leaders, mentors, schools, and relevant support organisations to support the successful and sustainable implementation of the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander Engagement and Employment Strategy. Identify, engage and support potential candidates through the employment and on boarding process. Conduct engagement sessions to inform, attract and engage potential and existing trainees and key stakeholders. Maintain records of existing and potential trainees, and coordinate GPC s Stay in Touch network. Identify internal opportunities for trainees throughout the organisation, including additional skills based learning and future employment opportunities. Report on the progress of the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander Engagement and Employment Strategy at relevant forums. Support the implementation of GPC s Reconciliation Action Plan in liaison with the Community Relations Officer Indigenous Affairs. Key Relationships Internal Indigenous Affairs Advisor: o Communicates daily regarding initiatives, strategies, work priorities and projects. o Works collaboratively with the CCR Manager o Seeks approval for initiatives, activities within project scope. Program trainees: o Communicates regularly regarding work priorities, engagement, traineeship progress, study, and provide regular support and advice as per the program. Mentors: o Communicates regularly regarding work priorities, engagement, traineeship progress, study, and provide regular support and advice as per the program. Employee Relations: o Communicates regularly regarding traineeship design, recruitment and selection programs. Department managers: o Regular interaction for input into and requests for specific promotional subjects. All employees: o Interactions for input into and requests for specific promotional subjects, events, engagement opportunities, enhancing relationships. External Community stakeholders, potential candidates, families, community members. Educational institutions. Health organisations, services providers and Indigenous organisations. 4 Level of Supervision Direction is provided through collaboration on strategies and initiatives with expectation that the incumbent will be autonomous and show initiative. The role will maintain constant contact with the Indigenous Affairs Advisor and when required the People, Community & Sustainability General Manager to ensure that the approach remains relevant to the overall organisation. Cultural Heritage and Cultural Awareness Highly developed skills in providing support, direction and care to trainees, leaders and teams to deliver the full intent of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander Engagement and Employment Strategy. Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders to deliver development initiatives and future opportunities. 5 Strong knowledge of local cultural heritage, including Traditional Owners, land ownership and boundaries 3. Engagement Highly developed skills in identifying, understanding and engaging with key stakeholders and the ability to recognise their impact on business operations. Ability to maintain neutrality amongst key stakeholders and Traditional Owners throughout decision making processes. 4.
