1 Locally selected Nature Improvement Areas Application Form The application consists of four sections covering the main topics that encompass the selection criteria. They are: Biodiversity Ecosystem services Socio-economic benefits Partnership working To demonstrate that the proposed initiative meets each criterion you are required to provide evidence of this by giving a written explanation (200 words max), which can be supported by other documents and sources to be compiled as an appendix. The appendix should only contain relevant evidence that supports a specified criterion. Please refer to the accompanying guidance document for more information. The GLNP Team can be contacted at info@glnp.org.uk for pre-application advice. Completed applications will be considered by the GLNP Steering Group and a score based on how well the initiative meets the specified criteria. If the application is deferred there will be an opportunity to discuss improvements and resubmit. 2 About your initiative Name of proposed Nature Improvement Area: Location and size (include map in appendix): Vision, Aims and Objectives: Partnership working: Describe the extent of the partnership, how long it has been established, and what has been achieved to date and the main aspirations of its members (200 words max). Initiative summary: Give a brief (400 words max) description of the projects that will deliver the key benefits and explain what are the intended outcomes. Monitoring and evaluation: Indicate how outcomes will be monitored and reported and how data will be made (200 words max). 3 Section 1: Biodiversity Give a brief overview of the biodiversity improvements: Describe the core sites and stepping stones of high ecological value contained within the area. 1.2 Identify the main habitat types and estimated extent within the area now and what changes you would like to see over the next 10 years. 1. Describe the status and distribution of key species occurring in the area, and what changes you would like to see over the next 10 years. 1.4 Describe the potential for wildlife corridors and buffers to link and enhance the areas identified in Describe the potential for restoration within the area. 4 Section 2: Ecosystem services Give a brief overview of the ecosystem services: - Identify the main ecosystem services that will be improved throughout the area and - explain how this will be achieved under the following headings: 2.1 Provisioning services (e.g. the products obtained from nature including food, fibre, fuel, biochemicals) 2.2 Regulating services (e.g. air and water quality, climate and natural hazard regulation, disease and pest control, pollination) 2. Supporting services (e.g. soil formation, photosynthesis, nutrient cycling and water cycling) 2.4 Cultural services (e.g. spiritual enrichment, cognitive development, recreation and aesthetic experiences) Section total 12 T: E: info@glnp.org.uk

5 Section : Socio-economic benefits Give a brief overview of the socio-economic benefits: - Describe the socio-economic benefits the initiative can bring, both now and in the - future under the following headings:.1 Public access (e.g. PROW, sites with public access, recreation opportunities etc.).2 Tourism (e.g. visitor numbers, attractions, spending opportunities etc.). 6 Section 4: Partnership working 4.1 Describe the composition and support for your partnership (refer to evidence in the appendix e.g. partnership agreement, minutes etc.) 4.2 Show how the local community demonstrates support for the proposed nature improvement area (please provide evidence). 4. Explain what role Local Authorities play within your partnership and how the proposed nature improvement area will be recognised within the Local Plan. 4.4 Explain what role representatives from CLA/NFU and the local farming community play within your partnership. 4.5 Identify existing and potential sources of funding, material resources and helpin-kind (if, please provide a funding plan in the appendix). 4.6 Describe the key indicators that the partnership will use to monitor the success of the project.
