4 Program Schedule Thursday, October 15, 2015 (8:30 a.m. 6:00 p.m.) Essential Skills for Successful In-House Lawyers A panel of general counsel and executives will discuss the evolving role of the in-house lawyer, expectations of in-house counsel and tips for navigating effectively within an organization. Roles and demands of the in-house lawyer Characteristics and skills required for success Learning the business, understanding communication pathways and reporting channels Developing and maintaining important internal relationships Maintaining legal ethics in a business environment Providing and demonstrating value to your organization The Inside Scoop Get the inside scoop from in-house lawyers, legal operations and legal procurement personnel on how they try to work together to achieve each other s respective objectives in reducing costs and securing and managing outside counsel. This workshop-style session will examine a case study and ask participants to develop real-world solutions to the kinds of problems they face every day, with immediate feedback provided by the in-house experts on the panel. Developing Into a Lawyer-Leader Leadership isn t conferred by a job title. This session will explore the hallmarks, qualities and skills associated with effective leadership and, more important, how to translate these ideas and theories into action, organizational effectiveness and career success.

5 Security Serenity: How To Survive a Security Audit Are you a corporate law department planning to audit a law firm? Law firms are new to the concept of being managed as a vendor, and yet they represent a vital link in the chain of protecting sensitive information. This session will discuss processes and techniques that experienced individuals on both the corporate and law firm side utilize to achieve security serenity. Friday, October 16, 2015 (8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.) Crisis Preparedness/Management for In House Counsel This presentation and exercise will include the sharing of crisis preparedness and management best practices from in-house attorneys and communications professionals. Social media causes countless new and changing obstacles for executives navigating crises. Attendees will sharpen their skills by participating in a mock crisis and discussing their responses. Strategies for Addressing Everyday and Emerging Employment Issues This presentation will identify important labor and employment developments facing employers today, including strategies for addressing the most common and emerging labor and employment issues. Mock Internal Investigation This exercise will identify critical strategies to address the most complicated issues and legal challenges involved when your company conducts an internal investigation. Presenters will also provide practical tips for preserving privilege and protecting your organization from costly liability. Managing Compliance and Privacy Risks This session will provide an overview of the data privacy laws and regulations impacting virtually every company. Learn how to proactively protect your company s data, assess risk and respond to a data incident as well as best practices for coordinating your response among the various stakeholders and the public.
