You ve been hired by the Chief Technology Officer to support Talent Development specifically in the IT Division, a department of approximately 700 employees and contractors

6 New CIO restructures IT division: Cross-functional teams created to support business needs Today John Cimral, Cambia Health Solutions CIO announced that the IT division will reorganize teams to support business needs in a more effective manner. Teams in the application development area will now consist of cross functional skills sets in order to improve delivery and collaboration.

18 IT Employee to Manager Ratios to be slashed in IT CIO also says No More Layoffs! We ll get rid of contractors before employees! IT employee to manager ratios are significantly higher than any other are of the organizations. In some cases the ratio is 40:1. With an new strategy in place, we will target a 15:1 ratio by the end of next quarter. In a related announcement, the CIO also indicated a change in the contractor / employee mix. Currently, the resource pool is approximately 40% contractors to 60% employees. John Cimral indicates he would like the mix to be 20% contractors & 80% employees.

29 Lessons Learned Don t underestimate how difficult culture can make change. Even doing some of the right things won t work Think Creatively Involve management to get resource support and buy-in Communicate, Communicate, Communicate Consider how to make repeatable or scalable processes along the way Ask for resources and budget upfront
