4 Page 4 Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest Pre-Employment Services Career readiness training Individuals with disabilities or disadvantages learn how to prepare for work. Training includes developing résumés and cover letters, developing interviewing skills, and filling out job applications. Participants may receive assistance in obtaining a driver s license or food worker card. Career readiness services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, East Wenatchee, Post Falls, Coeur Community-based assessment and training Participants are placed at work sites out in the community. Goodwill staff help them learn their job duties, monitor their progress, and incorporate their evaluations into employment planning. Community-based assessment and training services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Post Falls, Coeur Facility-based assessment and training Participants are placed at Goodwill retail facilities. On-site assessment and training helps Goodwill staff evaluate an individual s readiness to work and ability to perform tasks in one or more specific jobs. Facility-based assessment and training services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Colville, East Wenatchee, Post Falls, Coeur Skills training (classroom) Varying by location, Goodwill offers classroombased skills training programs to prepare participants for specific occupations: Computer applications Customer service Retail professionalism Skills training (classroom) is available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Post Falls, and Coeur d Alene. Soft skills training Participants learn how to set goals, develop a résumé, prepare for job interviews, select appropriate work attire, and manage personal issues such as child care, transportation, and stress. Soft skills training is available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Post Falls, Coeur d Alene, Ponderay, Moscow, and Lewiston. Work adjustment/hardening Sometimes individuals with disabilities participate in work adjustment to prepare for entering the workforce. An example of work hardening would be a person with an injury performing tasks while staff monitor his or her ability and evaluate any limitations. Work adjustment/hardening services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Colville, Post Falls, Coeur Work experience/school transition Young people with disabilities may be able to participate in job experiences that will help them make the transition from school to work. Work experience/school transition services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Post Falls, Coeur d'alene, Ponderay, Moscow, and Lewiston.

5 Service Directory Spring 2018 Page 5 Employment Services Career and Resource Center The Career and Resource Center provides information, access to resources, and referrals to other community resources. The Career and Resource Center serves as a WorkSource Spokane Connection site and is open to the public three days a week, offering customers access to all WorkSource online resources. Professional staff assistance is available to help customers navigate online research or job searches and give guidance and training at the Career and Resource Center. Staff will also assist customers with self-directed job searches, résumé preparation, and online job applications. In partnership with the Spokane Area Workforce Development Council, WorkSource is an equal opportunity partnership of organizations that provide employment and training services. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to persons with disabilities. Washington Relay Service 711. Services are available in Spokane. Group supported employment Under the guidance of a Goodwill job coach, individuals with disabilities work together on various tasks. The job coach is able to analyze their tasks, train them on their duties, and provide retraining and other support as needed. Group supported employment services are available in Moses Lake. Individual supported employment Participants work at sites in the community, supported by job coaches as needed. Supports may include help navigating the workplace, communicating and problem solving with supervisors and coworkers, understanding paychecks, and developing a workflow. Individual supported employment services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Post Falls, Coeur d Alene, Ponderay, Moscow, and Lewiston. Job coaching and retention services Once a program participant has obtained employment, a Goodwill job coach may work side-by-side with him or her to learn and master job duties. Participants discover how to maintain employment by learning to work well with others and meet workplace expectations. Job coaching and retention services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Newport, East Wenatchee, Post Falls, Coeur Job placement services Staff assist participants in identifying appropriate openings, preparing a résumé, practicing interview skills, and completing applications. Staff may contact prospective employers to find appropriate job openings and, as needed, participate in the interviewing process. Sometimes staff assist with on-the-job training. Job placement services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Colville, Newport, East Wenatchee, Post Falls, Coeur Job search assistance Goodwill staff help participants explore different kinds of positions and locate job openings that are possible good matches. Participants learn to use various resources, which may include the Internet. Job search assistance is available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Newport, East Wenatchee, Post Falls, Coeur Next Generation Zone As a partner in the Spokane Workforce Consortium, Goodwill participates in the Next Generation Zone, which serves at-risk youth ages 16 to 24. The Next Generation Zone provides employment training, work experience, job placement, and other services. This program is funded under the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act. Vocational counseling Members of Goodwill s Workforce & Family Services staff use their formal training and experience to assist participants as they set real-

6 Page 6 Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest istic career goals, identify steps to reach them, and identify and overcome potential barriers to successful employment, such as family or transportation issues. Vocational counseling is available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Post Falls, Coeur Specialized Programs Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET) Goodwill is a Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET) provider. The Basic Food Employment and Training program provides training and education with a goal of assisting Basic Food (SNAP) clients to attain a living wage career. Basic Food Employment and Training is an important part of the state's comprehensive workforce development system, serving the needs of low-income individuals, displaced workers, and employers by encouraging financial independence from public assistance through skill acquisition, personal responsibility, and gainful employment. Services are available in Spokane. Credentials to Careers (C2C) Goodwill's Credential to Careers Program is designed to meet employer demand by growing the skills of our current and future workforce. Credentials to Careers assists individuals entering or re-entering postsecondary educational facilities for job training. Participants complete the Credentials to Careers (C2C) class and receive individual support navigating their credentialing and career options. The Credentials to Careers class is designed to assist low-income adult learners with minimal exposure to the college experience. A variety of nonacademic, postsecondary training readiness topics, career mapping, and life preparation activities are presented within a college classroom adapted atmosphere. The goal is for participants to complete training for a high demand occupation, earning an industry-recognized certificate or credential that will lead to a family-supporting job. Services are available in Spokane. Housing and Essential Needs (HEN) The Housing and Essential Needs program provides housing assistance and essential housing needs to individuals who have been referred to the program by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). Individuals who apply to DSHS for assistance due to a short-term disability may be eligible for the Housing and Essential Needs program. Eligible persons who are homeless or, in some cases, at risk of becoming homeless may receive housing assistance in the form of rental subsidies, housing deposits, and application fees, as well as assistance with utility payments if program staff determine such assistance is needed. Eligible individuals may also receive essential household needs such as cleaning supplies, hygiene products, and other household items and transportation assistance in the form of bus passes or gasoline vouchers. The Housing and Essential Needs program is funded by the Washington State Department of Commerce through a grant by the City of Spokane. Services are available in Spokane and Spokane Valley. Independent Living Services Goodwill provides services to individuals with disabilities, helping them gain independence. Individuals receiving Independent Living Services are referred by and funded by Washington s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Goodwill staff assess their needs, such as mastering household tasks, taking care of basic expenses, and using public transportation, then develop a personalized plan to guide their growth to independent living. Staff evaluate their living situation and assure that it is safe and accessible or may facilitate the individual moving to another home. Independent Living Services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, Colville, East Wenatchee, Pullman, Clarkston, Moscow, and Lewiston. Re-Entry Initiative Many people are released from jail with no job, no home, and no support system. Without these sup-

7 Service Directory Spring 2018 Page 7 ports, they are at higher risk for behaviors that will return them to prison. The Goodwill Re-Entry Initiative provides services that help adults successfully transition from prison to a productive life in community. Goodwill uses housing and employment as the foundation to help men and women break the cycle of incarceration and become part of their community. To qualify for the Re-Entry Initiative, you must be at Spokane County Jail or Geiger Corrections Center. To qualify, applicants must have little or no income, at least 45 days left on one s sentence, and all charges adjudicated upon release. Visit spokanecountyhprp. com to apply. Representative Payee Services Individuals who are receiving government assistance, such as Social Security or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, may also receive help from Goodwill in managing their monthly finances. Goodwill is authorized by federal and state agencies to receive the checks and, in turn, make payments to landlords, utilities, etc. Some participants are private parties. The payee staff is skilled at developing budgets and negotiating payment schedules. Representative Payee Services are available in Spokane, Moses Lake, East Wenatchee, Coeur d Alene, and Lewiston. Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) is a rapid rehousing program for eligible veterans struggling to obtain and sustain permanent housing. SSVF helps veterans and veteran families find and secure stable housing and equips participants for financial stability. Veterans work with their case managers to create a housing stability plan with supported goals that ensure success and independence within their communities. SSVF services are available in Spokane, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Kootenai, Ferry, Lincoln, Whitman, and Bonner counties.
