2 The Organization Founded in 1918, the Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. (The Lighthouse) is a private, not-for-profit social enterprise whose mission is to provide employment, support, and training for people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities. Over the last 100 years, the organization has maintained a familial, tight-knit culture while growing into a world-class training and manufacturing corporation that generates over $80 million in annual revenue. To fulfill its mission of creating opportunities for independence and self-sufficiency for people who are blind, The Lighthouse offers eight training programs and includes an in-house sign language interpreting department to ensure effective communication for DeafBlind employees, staff mobility instructors to teach independent travel with a white cane or dog guide, and over 100 computer workstations adapted for use by visually impaired individuals. Many students have no prior work experience, but once they have completed training on leadingedge assisted technology, they are employed full-time in a world-class manufacturing facility. With over 50 years of experience in precision machining and 99.9% efficiency, The Lighthouse competes with other world-renowned manufacturers and produces an array of machined parts and plastic injection moldings for various aerospace manufacturers like the Boeing Company, as well as a host of office products and hydration equipment sold to the federal government and U.S. military. Operating in 13 current locations, The Lighthouse currently employs over 470 individuals, more than 260 of whom are blind, DeafBlind, or blind with other disabilities and the organization has maintained steady, healthy growth for decades. 3 The Position The Lighthouse seeks a highly motivated and experienced Vice President of Human Resources to join its Strategic Leadership team and lead and manage the Human Resources department. The Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) will join The Lighthouse during a period of growth that includes expansion its new South Carolina location. The new VP of HR will provide the strategic direction and guidance for the workforce-related components of its organization-wide strategy, programs, and policies, enabling employees and leadership to maintain the quality of both our people-centered programs and our product. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and overseeing a department of 16, The VP of HR will work collaboratively across departments to ensure that The Lighthouse has the HR infrastructure, policies and procedures, systems, and people in place to accommodate continued growth. The VP of HR will also be a vital member of a dynamic, tenured Strategic Leadership Team that sets the strategy and vision for The Lighthouse. Key areas of focus for the VP of HR will include: Strategic Pipeline Development and Recruiting Champion a positive employee experience to shape the community, morale, and culture of The Lighthouse with an obsessive focus on building a great place to work that attracts, motivates and retains employees. Identify, attract, and target new candidates, especially blind and DeafBlind talent, and create programs and initiatives to ensure a robust national candidate pipeline, focusing special attention on the roles that are most frequently under-resourced. Employee Relations and Safety Enable leaders at all levels to maintain an environment that engages team members to do their best every day and supports them as they strive for zero accidents and injuries. Evaluate employee relations issues and meet with supervisors to determine effective remediation techniques, such as training or personal intervention to resolve issues. Monitor employee counseling, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans to ensure each employee receives adequate support to be successful. Direct the administration of risk management and safety policies and programs in accordance with The Lighthouse s stated objectives.

4 The Position (continued) Organizational Effectiveness Identify competency, knowledge and talent needs within the organization and develop programs for enhancing skills and increasing knowledge to close gaps and provide new opportunities. Oversee and support the performance management process and provide guidance to leaders on their employee reviews, evaluations, and compensation packages. Provide department leaders with direct counsel to support and maintain a culture of excellence, innovation, trust, and organizational growth. Develop and implement a progressive and proactive compensation and benefits program that responds to the rapidly changing hourly wage laws as they apply to each location. Human Resources Department Leadership Lead and mentor a group of long-term tenured HR professionals and work with them to identify continuous quality improvement opportunities within the department. Provide strong leadership support for the Human Resources department to ensure that they cohesively work together to maximize employee opportunities for personal and professional development. Oversee the successful evaluation, updating, and implementation of all Human Resources department strategies and programs to ensure that they are aligned with the strategic goals of The Lighthouse. Lead the HR staff in reviewing and updating the employee handbook in accordance with all applicable HR policies, practices, and laws. Develop successful cooperative relationships with other departments at The Lighthouse.

5 Ideal Candidate Profile The Lighthouse for the Blind seeks a strategic, energetic Human Resources leader and patient change agent that can help the organization successfully embark on its next 100 years. The ideal candidate will possess a broad HR tool box and have deep experience leading every aspect of human resources strategy across a dynamic organization. The ideal candidate will be a strong, collaborative leader who can effectively partner with the leadership team to scale safe, high quality manufacturing in an environment where most of the employees are blind. She or he will have experience leading the people side of strategic plans and making leaders, departments, and systems stronger as they grow a business without losing focus on the mission. The ideal candidate is a person willing to invest a combination of passion, business acumen, and entrepreneurial spirit The VP of HR will be a transparent, strong communicator who can tell hard truths with compassion, while still interacting with all team members with humility. She or he will lead a department that is timely, responsive, and flexible in meeting organizational needs and set reasonable expectations with colleagues and staff. The ideal candidate will have exceptional management skills and demonstrated experience leading a department of five or more that is similar in complexity. The ideal candidate is perceptive, approachable and comfortable walking on a manufacturing floor, yet has the gravitas to take her or his place at the Strategic Leadership Team table. Insightful, patient, yet innovative, the VP of HR will be a vital member of the Strategic Leadership Team, instinctively knowing the right questions to ask and when to lean in with support at critical moments. Candidates must be masterful in communicating strategic vision and empowering her or his peers with the tools needed to achieve corporate goals. Exceptional knowledge of HR laws and best practices, wage and hour laws, business acumen, people and organization management, talent acquisition, HRIS systems, and the highest level of employee relations are vital to success in this role. Up to 30% travel should be anticipated.

6 Qualifications Candidates should have a Bachelors degree, a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources, and a proven record of effective HR leadership, preferably in a manufacturing environment. A Masters Degree and/or Human Resources certification is preferred. Successful candidates will bring strong verbal and written communication skills; additional spoken language, American Sign Language, or braille skills are a plus.
